Match of the Round: Gladesville Ryde Magic 7-3 South Coast Flame FC
A match which produced quite the unique scoreline saw Gladesville Ryde Magic record their biggest win in terms of goals scored in over four seasons after their 7-3 home win over South Coast Flame FC, with a hat-trick hero to top off the result for them.
Gladesville opened the scoring in the 9th minute when a long ball into the corner from Gladesville saw the Flame try to play it out, but Aaron Nordstrom pinched the ball and ran along the byline; he then cut the ball back to Yukihiro Ayukawa in the middle who scored to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Gladesville doubled their lead in the 15th minute when Nordstrom got the ball out wide left and played the ball early into the box; the ball went to Daniel Sramek outside the box, who struck the ball strongly into the side of the inside net to give Gladesville a 2-0 advantage.
Three minutes later, Sramek received the ball out wide right and whipped the ball at chest height into the six-yard box where Ayukawa was waiting; he chested the ball into the back of the net to give Gladesville a 3-0 lead.
In the 34th minute, Gladesville grabbed a fourth goal when Ayukawa had a one-on-one effort saved by Flame goalkeeper Nenad Vekic, but Sramek was there on the follow-up and found the back of the net to complete his double and give the hosts a 4-0 lead.
Gladesville had a 5-0 lead at half-time when a scramble from a corner in the 43rd minute resulted in Sidhya Malhotra striking the ball into the roof of the net to put a stamp on Gladesville’s five-star first half.
After the break, a triple-change from the Flame brought them some joy and they grabbed a consolation goal in the 78th minute when substitute William Provino struck the ball into the top corner of the goal with a curling effort from the edge of the box to make the scoreline read 5-1.
Less than a minute later, however, the Magic grabbed their sixth goal of the match through Ayukawa, who completed his hat-trick to give Gladesville a 6-1 lead in the match.
Provino completed his double for the Flame in the 87th minute when he slotted the ball home from a scramble off a Flame corner to reduce the deficit once again to four goals at 6-2 down.
Jyden Harb then continued his strong season with his 15th goal as he continued his run atop the goal scorer standings for 2025 when he got on the end of a transition from a Magic corner and curled the ball into the corner of the goal to score for the Flame for a fifth-straight match and make the scoreline read 6-3 for the Magic.
The Magic were not done, however, and rounded out the 7-3 win in the first minute of stoppage time when Malhotra went on a solo run and slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner for his double to round out Gladesville’s biggest victory in many years.
Speaking post-match, Gladesville head coach Chris Gaitatzis was very pleased with his side, especially given the number of injuries they had, starting with four 18-year-olds, while he was pleased with Christopher Ganiatsas, who made his starting debut for the club in midfield.
““We came into the game knowing that we had players out with injury and illness, but like we said from the start of the season every player in this squad will play at some point throughout the season, every player is important to our team and that showed on the field; everyone in the team stepped up.”
The win for the Magic saw them rise from 11th to 9th on the ladder, while the loss for the Flame was their first in five matches as they stayed in 4th.
Gladesville will hope to build off the back of this big win when they travel to face 13th-placed Camden Tigers FC in Round 15, while the Flame will hope to bounce back when they host 10th-placed Fraser Park FC.

The hosts created early but were unable to find the target, with six shots off target and two on target in the first half, compared to Camden’s two off target and three on.
Following that, rain came down and affected the play, with both sides having to adjust to the conditions into the second half.
In the second forty-five minutes, both sides had their fair share of chances, with both teams hitting the goal post once each and both goalkeepers making one big save each, respectively.
