Round 12 Review – League One Women’s

Round 12 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was an abbreviated one due to weather but the four games that got on were closely fought. Hills United FC remained at the top of the league while Camden Tigers FC got a late win. The Match of the Round saw Bankstown City Lions FC host Inter Lions FC. Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Bankstown City Lions FC 0 drew with Inter Lions FC 0

Bankstown City Lions FC and Inter Lions FC had a 0-0 draw at Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions dealt with an early injury to Chelsea Greguric but had the majority of the opportunities in the game. Their best ones fell to Karen Bennett and captain Stephanie Ambrose.

Inter Lions FC were stout in defence and limited the chances that Bankstown City Lions FC were able to create. They had a few shots of their own with strikers Jenny Hughes and Kiara Coscia went the closest.

Bankstown City Lions FC and Inter Lions FC walked onto Jensen Park ready to battle for three points.

The hosts had the first shot of the game through Karen Bennett. The ball popped up for her and she thumped it wide of the right post.

Stephanie Ambrose tried her luck from a set piece in the 8th minute. She curled it past all the attackers and the left hand post.

Inter Lions FC took their time to find their rhythm but they did limit the chances that Bankstown City Lions FC were able to produce.

The Lions kept pushing forward for the opener. Substitute Lia Colaluce sprung onto the ball and fired it over the bar.

Inter Lions FC authored their first shot in the 24th minute. Jenny Hughes wriggled free and whipped an effort wide.

Buoyed by their first shot, Inter Lions FC had a free-kick. Kiara Coscia’s set piece skidded through and beat everyone.

The two sides traded long range chances as the game continued to wait for the first goal to appear.

Paola Andrea Giraldo Uribe skipped past a defender and forced Bankstown City Lions FC keeper Keeley Segacvic into her first stop.

Bankstown City Lions FC started the second half quickly. Kahtia Bedano strode forward and fired one right at Inter Lions FC keeper Amalia Orphanides.

Krystallia Kallidakis tried to work an opening for Bankstown City Lions FC. She connected with a header that looped right to Orphanides.

Ambrose continued to deliver some dangerous crosses for the hosts. She whipped one in low that narrowly avoided finding a team mate.

Next, the ball fell to Bedano inside the box for the hosts. She arrowed an effort wide of the left post.

Headed into the final 15 minutes, both teams pushed forward looking for the winner in this tense contest.

Kallidakis again was central to the hosts attack. She unfurled a strike which forced Orphanides into a save to her right in the 82nd minute.

Inter Lions FC tried their luck from range as well. Elena Antic picked up a loose ball and shot right at Segavcic.

Despite the huffing and puffing from both sides, the game ended at 0-0 and the points were shared.

Blacktown City FC 0 drew with Sutherland Strikers FC 0

Points were shared in a 0-0 draw between Blacktown City FC and Sutherland Strikers FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams added another point to their tally for the season in a robust game which was end to end between two sides that have been improved in recent weeks. Blacktown City FC enjoyed the majority of the chances but were denied well by Sutherland Strikers FC custodian Chantelle Symes for 0-0 at the break.

The frantic nature of the game continued in the second half as the teams searched for a vital three points. Sutherland Strikers FC struck the post while Blacktown City FC played good football but couldn’t find the back of the net so the game ended in a stalemate.

Blacktown Spartans FC 0 defeated by Camden Tigers FC 1

Camden Tigers FC were 1-0 winners against Blacktown Spartans FC at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday afternoon.

It was a fiercely contested game between two sides who were desperate to add to their points total in their 2025 campaign. They came out of the blocks fast but neither side could find a break through and it went to the break at 0-0.

The game looked destined to be a stalemate between the two sides until one moment of magic in stoppage time stole the limelight. Chantelle Bernard who has become Camden Tigers go-to goal scorer in big situations was threaded through and made it 1-0 in the 92nd minute to give the visitors all three points.

Nepean FC 0 defeated by Hills United FC 3

Hills United FC won 3-0 against a dogged Nepean FC side in their game at Cook Park on Sunday evening.

The League Leaders bounced back with a win to extend their lead at the top of the League One Women’s competition. Gemma Woolley surgically opened up the Nepean FC defence to make it 1-0 for Hills United FC in the 19th minute for the lead at the break.

Isabella Sciberras was a super sub for Hills United FC after coming onto the field in the 63rd minute replacing Rachel Glendenning to score twice. Sciberras made it 2-0 in the 67th minute then completed her brace in the 71st minute for 3-0.

Hills United FC saw out the rest of the game without incident to log three points and their ninth win of the campaign. They remain three points clear of their challengers headed to the halfway mark of the league.
