Round 14 Review – League One Women’s

The weather might be cooling down, but the action heated up in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition for Round 14.
The six games across Sunday featured fabulous drama, goals and plenty of hard fought action.
The Match of the Round saw Central Coast Mariners FC host SD Raiders FC.

Match of the Round: Central Coast Mariners FC 0 defeated by SD Raiders FC 1
SD Raiders FC won 1-0 against a gallant Central Coast Mariners FC side at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts were unable to find a way through the SD Raiders FC defence. Their best chances fell to Peyton Scollay and substitute Natalia O’Driscoll in each half in their second home game of the season.
SD Raiders FC remain hot on the heels of Hills United FC after their tenth win of the season. It was a spectacular chipped goal from Sarah Mandile in the 58th minute which settled this top four contest.
Both Central Coast Mariners FC and SD Raiders FC walked onto Pluim Park ready to do battle for three points.
The two sides exchanged half chances early. SD Raiders FC had a shot deflect for a corner while Matilda Gallagher sent one wide.
Central Coast authored the first real chance. Ava Moller whipped in a cross which fell to Peyton Scollay who fired right at SD Raiders FC custodian Natasha Pentecost.
SD Raiders FC settled into their rhythm and tried their luck. Abigail Boag tried one from range which Central Coast Mariners FC keeper Kyara O’Brien claimed.
The visitors were building pressure with several corners but the Mariners defence were on hand to sweep them away.
Sharina Harris was the next to try her luck. She fizzed an effort past the left post of O’Brien as the game remained 0-0.
SD Raiders FC had the final chance of the first half. Boag wriggled free and had a strike deflect for another corner.
The visitors started quickly in the second half. Layne Knight found space on the edge of the box and rifled one right at O’Brien.
Next, Peyton Scollay weaved through the SD Raiders FC defence then had a shot go right into the hands of Pentecost.
SD Raiders FC went closest in the 53rd minute. Tenealle Hay’s low shot was bobbled then the back heel from Sarah Mandile was turned away.
The visitors made it 1-0 in the 58th minute. Mandile spied O’Brien off her line and chipped it over her head and into the goal.
Central Coast pushed forward looking for an equalizer and had a pair of half chances which the visitors dealt with.
Harris showed off her prowess at the set piece again. She whipped in a free-kick which O’Brien tipped over the bar.
The Mariners went down the other end and almost levelled. Substitute Briana Myers won the ball, fed it to Scollay who cut it back to another substitute in Natalia O’Driscoll who drew the save.
They pushed numbers forward in the last few minutes to chase a goal. SD Raiders FC defence remained rock solid.
SD Raiders FC saw out the rest of the time added on and secured three valuable points which kept them in the League One Women’s top two.

Nepean FC 1 defeated by Blacktown Spartans FC 2
Blacktown Spartans FC won 2-1 against Nepean FC in their game at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans earn their first win since Round 7 and complete a league double over Nepean FC in 2025 and some revenge from their Sapphire Cup exit at Nepean FC’s hands. It was a closely fought first half between the two sides and neither gave an inch which meant it was 0-0 going to half-time.
The game found it’s footing in the second half and the goals flowed. Chloe Hain made it 1-0 for Blacktown Spartans FC in the 49th minute with a fabulous 25 yard free-kick then Tamara Grieves levelled for Nepean FC in the 55th minute for 1-1 and set it up for a grandstand finish.
Blacktown Spartans FC winner came from another set piece in the 60th minute. Lili Rosandic swung in the corner which Eleonora Daga turned home for 2-1. The Spartans held out for the win and earned another flip from one of their support staff.
Blacktown City FC 1 drew with Inter Lions FC 1
Blacktown City FC and Inter Lions FC shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The point makes it three games unbeaten for Blacktown City FC who continue to move up the League One Women’s ladder. Nyssa Castillo made it 1-0 for Blacktown City FC in the 26th minute before Elena Antic equalized for Inter Lions FC in the 28th minute for 1-1 at the break.
Both teams scrapped their way through the second half and the Lions had custodian Amalia Orphanides to thank for earning a point after her penalty save late in the game against Blacktown City FC’s goal scorer Castillo to keep it at 1-1. Following that point, Inter Lions FC remain in eighth spot on the ladder.
Camden Tigers FC 0 defeated by Marconi Stallions FC 1
Marconi Stallions FC won 1-0 against Camden Tigers FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Stallions get themselves back in the winner’s circle after being refreshed from the bye. The visitors scored in the fourth minute through Daniela Brekic who swept home from a corner for 1-0 and they held that lead until the break.
It was a feisty second half as the two sides battled for three important points to open the second half of the season. Both sides were reduced to 10 when Laura Malagon Avila for Marconi Stallions and Eve Wilson for Camden Tigers were sent off in the 72nd minute.
Marconi Stallions saw out the rest of the game professionally against the hosts and moved themselves into third spot on the League One Women’s ladder with their eighth win of the campaign.
Bankstown City Lions FC 1 drew with St George FC 1
Bankstown City Lions FC and St George FC played out a 1-1 draw at Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions left it late but earn a precious point in their chase for the top four. St George FC opened the scoring through Golden Boot leader Jordan Baker in the 29th minute for 1-0 for her 17th goal of the campaign.
St George FC held their one goal advantage to half-time. They were looking assured to win before an 80th minute strike from Bankstown City Lions’ Krystallia Kallidakis made it 1-1. The Lions also erase some of the memory of their 5-0 defeat to St George FC back in Round 1.
Hills United FC 6 defeated South Coast Flame FC 0
Hills United FC won 6-0 against South Coast Flame FC at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday evening.
The League leaders were ruthless in front of goal to maintain their three point advantage at the summit of the competition. Elin Rosenberg Cemazar made it 1-0 for Hills United FC in the 28th minute bustling through the defence. Isabella Sciberras doubled their delight in the 34th minute for 2-0.
Next, it was Gemma Woolley who made it 3-0 in the 45th minute from a good assist from Sciberras. After the break, Bianca Galayini celebrated her 100th appearance in style finding the back of the net for 4-0 from Monique Holder’s perfect cross.
Hills United FC captain Aisling Davidson made it 5-0 with a thumping header from a corner in the 79th minute then Cemazar rounded it off with her second goal in the 87th minute for 6-0 with a 25 yard strike.
