Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: Bankstown City Lions FC 2 defeated by South Coast Flame FC 3

South Coast Flame FC had a 3-2 comeback win against Bankstown City Lions FC at Jensen Park on Sunday evening.

The Lions had a strong first half and took the lead through Krystallia Kallidakis in the 10th minute then made it 2-0 in the 37th minute from Karen Bennett. The young side was pegged back in the second half.

For South Coast Flame FC, it was a fantastic comeback to remain a point outside the top four. Molly Lawless started the comeback in the 49th minute then Abbey Crapp tapped home to equalise in the 57th minute for 2-2. Lawless completed the turnaround with her 91st minute thumping strike for 3-2.

Both Bankstown City Lions FC and South Coast Flame FC trot onto Jensen Park ready to battle for three points.

The hosts were the first side to offer up a chance. It fell right to Jemma Hall on the edge of the box before she fired over.

South Coast Flame FC had a few half chances in the opening stages but didn’t trouble Bankstown City Lions FC keeper Keeley Segavcic.

Bankstown City Lions FC made it 1-0 in the 10th minute. Hall started the move finding Lucy Coxsedge who drilled in a cross for Krystallia Kallidakis to fire home.

Kallidakis tried to repeat the dose this time from range. Her strike bent wide of the right post of South Coast Flame FC custodian Ciara Wade.

Emily Kostovski was a bright spark for the Flame early. She drove forward and fired a shot right to Segavcic.

Next, she tried to turn provider to get Flame level. Kostovski threaded through a ball for Bessie Riethmuller who sprayed it wide.

The Lions made it 2-0 in the 37th minute. Karen Bennett drove down the left side and struck one low which got past Wade.

Coming out of the break, South Coast Flame FC felt just fine. They started with a high intensity to get back into the contest.

The visitors made it 2-1 after Kostovski’s cross was put into the path of Molly Lawless to tap home in the 49th minute.

The Flame levelled the game in the 57th minute. It was a slick move which sent Kostovski through and she passed it for Abbey Crapp to turn home for 2-2.

Buoyed by their equaliser, South Coast Flame FC pushed forward to complete the turnaround with Crapp going closest.

Substitute Chrystal Duggan almost produced the moment. She found space on the left, cut inside and fired straight at Segavcic.

The Lions surged forward with their own chance to restore their lead. Crystal Woods wriggled free and unfurled a shot right at Wade.

South Coast Flame FC completed the turnaround in the 91st minute. Crapp back heeled it into the path of Lawless who thumped it home for 3-2.

Post match, Bankstown City Lions FC coach Ante Covic reflected on the effort from his young side:

“It is disappointing to lose but we only have eight first graders available and lacked some experience in the second half. First half was great, but we dropped off and copped three goals. Considering the circumstances we stuck in all game and the girls from the 23s will get good experience out of this.” said Covic.

South Coast Flame FC coach Daniel Naumovski praised the spirit from his side to turn the game around in the second half:

“It was a poor first half from us but we didn’t have a doubt that we would mount a comeback in the second half. We executed well in the second half and substitute [Mikayla] De Jong helped us push forward and get the win.” said Naumovski.
