De Oliveira itching for Waratah Cup success

Sydney United 58’s hype man Carlos De Oliveira has one eye on this Wednesday evening’s Waratah Cup Final as he hopes to clinch his first piece of silverware since joining the club as they face League One side Northern Tigers FC at Valentine Sports Park.
United 58 will come into the final as favourites having clinched it six times with the pocket dynamo midfielder hoping he and his troops can get the job done come Wednesday.
“Our season so far has been good, the team’s definitely coming along well and finally gelling the way we’ve always pictured from the start of the year,” De Oliveira said on 2025 so far.
“We’ve gotten some good results in the league, and we’ve put ourselves on the big stage for the Cup but we still aren’t done yet.
“We haven’t won anything just yet, and that’s our main goal for the season.
“We want to bring back some silverware; this club deserves it.”
Oliveira has been a characteristically crucial player for his side this campaign, and was integral to their 2-0 semi-final victory over SD Raiders, netting the opening goal.
“For me winning that semi was special and to score the opener for the team was a nice feeling,” he said.
“Cup nights hit differently especially when you have the fans and support like we do.
“Them turning up on a cold Wednesday winters night shows how much this means for the club.”
De Oliveira and United 58 will take on League One Men’s outfit Northern Tigers in the final, in what the midfield maestro predicts will be a difficult match-up.
“I think the final is going to be very tough,” he said.
“Tigers will be a strong and physical opponent.
“They have done extremely well to make the round of 32 and now the final so we are expecting nothing less than a battle.
“We will prepare accordingly and I’m sure the boys will be up for it.
“It’s a big game not only for us, but for the club too.”
Meanwhile, De Oliveira understands the importance of United 58 winning trophies, and outlined the positive impact that a Waratah Cup final victory could have on the rest of their season.
“Winning the Waratah Cup would be an incredible feeling,” he said.
“Not only will it be a significant night for the club, but I think all the boys in our change room deserve it.
“We have a great culture and a great group of boys, and this trophy will be a resemblance of what the boys have created.
“Winning the Waratah Cup will be the start of our journey for the rest of the year.
“It’ll give us the edge and motivation to keep on going and win more and more trophies up until the end of the year.”
The Waratah Cup final will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, the 2nd of July at Valentine Sports Park, with the match, as always, also available live and free on Football NSW’s YouTube channel.
Tickets must be purchased online prior to the event.
