Round 19 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was curtailed to three games due to weather but it didn’t mean there wasn’t drama across the weekend.

There were three games which were completed which saw wins for South Coast Flame FC in the Match of the Round while Central Coast Mariners FC and St George FC came away with three points.

Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: South Coast Flame FC 1 defeated Camden Tigers FC 0

South Coast Flame FC won 1-0 against Camden Tigers FC at Ian McLennan Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Flame had to work for the result in a tight tussle. The winner came through Abbey Crapp in the 48th minute from a superb Bessie Riethmuller pass to make it 1-0 and earn all three points whilst maintain their top four position.

Camden Tigers FC were dogged against one the top sides in the League One Women’s competition. Their best chances fell to Maya Miller and Charlotte Taylor in another positive performance.

South Coast Flame FC and Camden Tigers FC strode onto a sun drenched Ian McLennan Oval looking for three points.

It was a tight opening in the contest as neither team wanted to concede possession in midfield in the first ten minutes.

South Coast Flame FC had the first opening of the game shortly after. Chrystal Duggan sprung free and whipped an effort wide of the left post.

The Flame were bright from the set piece in the first half. Alexis Malizis curled a free-kick right into the arms of Camden Tigers FC keeper Zarli Lakeman.

Next, it was Ashleigh Long who tried to fire one past Lakeman. She pushed her effort wide of the mark as the game started to open up.

Camden Tigers FC started to find their rhythm and had their first chance. Maya Miller found space on the edge of the box and blazed an effort over.

Malizis had a pair of free-kicks late in the first half which she fizzed over the bar which sent the game into the break at 0-0.

The best work for the Tigers in the first half came when Miller linked with Maja Prostran and Ashlee Taff with some precise movements.

Coming out of the break, South Coast Flame FC felt just fine. They made it 1-0 in the 48th minute through Abbey Crapp.

It was a sumptuous pass from Bessie Riethmuller released her which then allowed Crapp to round the keeper and roll home.

The hosts tried to double their delight soon after. Malizis tried to curl home another free-kick but Lakeman was up to the task.

The Tigers pushed forward looking for an equaliser. Ashlee Taff found a pocket of space and unfurled an effort at South Coast Flame FC keeper Ciara Wade.

Buoyed by that effort, Tigers went close again. This time, it was Chantelle Barnard who tried to hook an effort past Wade.

Both sides rung the changes as the game started to stretch in the final stages. Tigers substitute Montanna Taff brought energy for the visitors.

Next, it was Eve Wilson who had room on the edge of the box and whipped an effort right into the hands of Wade.

It was all Tigers as the game ticked into the 80th minute. Charlotte Taylor was on the edge of the box from a corner and fizzed wide.

Flame substitute Mikayla De Jong then tried to kill off the game once she came on. She drove forward and sent an effort right at Lakeman.

The final chance fell to the visitors in stoppage time. Ashlee Taff was the fulcrum again and tried to arrow home but it flew onto the top of the net.

South Coast Flame FC saw out the final minutes with ease and won this contest 1-0 against a dogged Camden Tigers FC outfit.

Post match, South Coast Flame FC coach Daniel Naumovski reflected on getting three points while not being their best:

“We were poor in the game but we got the win which we needed. You can’t be good every week but the points were what is important. It has been a big effort since inception to create a good environment, and this is the result of it.” said Naumovski.

For Camden Tigers FC coach Alex Antolak, he looked at the game as another close game his side has been involved in:

“It was a very close game against a good opposition. They were tough to break down and we didn’t take the chances we created. For our numbers, it has been tough but we keep going and continue to have close games.” said Antolak.
