Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC will hope to avoid a drop to the League Two Men’s competition for the first time in their history, with the historic club looking to build on their late-season form, which saw them avoid the automatic drop, as they look to maintain their League One Men’s status.

With  a team looking to make history in Prospect facing an historic club in Bonnyrigg, this playoff tie between the two clubs will bring with it plenty of fire, passion and drama.

Here is what to look out for in the first of two legs ahead:

Saturday, 6th September 2025

Prospect United SC vs Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC, 7:15pm at Blacktown Football Park

This is the first meeting between these two sides.

Prospect United SC will hope to cap off a remarkable season for the club as they chase promotion to the League One Men’s competition for the first time.

Prospect finished 2nd in the League Two Men’s competition in 2025 on 55 points, 15 points behind Premiers Hurstville Zagreb FC, and sealed their 2nd-placed finish following a final-round 5-2 home win over Bankstown United FC.

The main threats up front for Prospect will be Praneet Singh and Anthony Idehen, the pair finishing the season on 15 and 12 goals, respectively.

Having only conceded 33 goals from 28 matches this season and keeping 10 clean sheets, Prospect will hope their defence will aid them in this two-legged playoff.

With adversity and pressure on them late in the season to hold onto 2nd place, Prospect will hope to be prepared for the pressure the playoff series will bring them.

Prospect will hope to get back to their defensive best, given they had five clean sheets in the space of six matches between Rounds 19 and 24, with Brenden Allen between the sticks, the likes of Jacob Micallef and Shaan Birring at the back and Reo Hirose patrolling in the 6 position.

Prospect have scored 16 goals total from their last five matches and will hope to bring that attacking intent to Bonnyrigg.

Expect Prospect to look to their usual suspects in attack, while also keeping up their strong defence as they look to take a lead into the second leg.

Prospect will be full of confidence following their last-round 2nd place finish and will hope to bring that momentum into the playoff.

Expect Prospect to put up a strong fight across the park as they hunt a first-leg win, where the first goal will be all-important to set the mood.

Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC, meanwhile, will hope to continue their late-season form which saw them avoid automatic relegation at the expense of Mounties Wanderers FC, who finished last, as they look to secure their place in the League One Men’s competition for 2026.

Bonnyrigg finished the regular season in 15th place on 28 points following a late run of good form which saw them avoid relegation.

The regular season for Bonnyrigg can be divided into two stages – pre and post the registration period; before, Bonnyrigg struggled for wins, at one point going winless for 20 matches between Rounds Six and Twenty-Five, before a late flurry of four wins and a draw from their final five matches saw them avoid relegation by three points on the final day.

Having competed in the League One Men’s competition since 2019, Bonnyrigg will hope to extend that stay as they look to rebuild for the future of the club.

The four-time NPL Premier League Champions and six-time NPL Premier League Premiers, Bonnyrigg is a storied club and they will hope to avoid dropping to the League Two Men’s competition for the first time in their history.

Having brought in a lot of players mid-season to make a difference, including some A-Leagues experience, Bonnyrigg will hope their investment pays off following these two matches.

Fumuto Kamada and Josh Symons have played a big role in Bonnyrigg’s recent good form and will be a big threat from set pieces against Prospect.

Daniel Bittar will also be a player to watch out wide, Bonnyrigg’s top goal scorer and assist provider in 2025 to be a threat for the Prospect defence.

Bonnyrigg have scored their fair share of goals in 2025, with 38 from their 30 matches, but hold the third-worst defensive record in the league with 58 goals conceded.

If Bonnyrigg can grab the opening goal in this fixture, it could give them the confidence to carry on as they look to get off to a strong start away from home with a second leg at their home ground to look forward to.

Both Prospect and Bonnyrigg will hope to give their all in what is an unfamiliar fixture for the both of them in a playoff, as they look to retain their place and rise up the ranks, respectively.

Expect Bonnyrigg to build off their late-season form and Prospect to use their ability to hold their nerve late in the season to set up the respective sides for success across the two-legged affair.

With these two matches deciding the make up of the 2026 League One Men’s and League Two Men’s competitions, history awaits both sides, with retention, promotion and relegation at stake.
