Futsal Premier League Open Men’s 2025 Season Preview

a close up of a sign

The Futsal Premier League Open Men’s season kick’s off this weekend, let’s check out how each of the teams have recruited for this year.

Boomerangs FS

Last Season: 6th (11 points)

There was a point last season that Boomerangs F.S were in contention for a semi-finals appearance. Now the question is, can they take it a step further crack the top four this season? With a familiar looking squad, they should be ready to hit the ground running this campaign.

Not the most active between seasons, the Canberra based side have opted for stability in season 2025 with a focus on improving the individual whilst being more proactive in 1v1 battles in possession. As such, you can expect to see a largely familiar squad to the team fielded last season.

Under no illusions that the competition will be tough, the goal is to improve on last years finish and potentially a finals finish, something they’ve only managed on three occasions in their FPL history. Their first month sees three consecutive away trips to face Sydney Futsal Club, Dural Warriors and Mountain Majik.

Dural Warriors

Last Season: 5th (18 points)

There’s a different feeling amongst the Dural Warriors Open Men’s set up going into season 2025. For the first time in a while, they have a committed playing group and have secured a few positive results in preseason.

In correspondence with us, their squad has been described as a good mix of youth and experience. Their two notable recruits being that of Nathan Niski and Brian Griffincoll. While their notable absence is that of Brendan Vella. While Jacob Sullivan and Ben Seeto have been singled out as players to watch this season as they look to put their stamp on the Open Men’s competition.

Having finished in fifth position last season, the goal this time is simply securing finals football. They kick off their season against Mountain Majik this coming Saturday.

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah

Last season: 4th (21 points)

Having undergone a squad rebuild in between seasons, Eastern Suburbs Hakoah look set once again to be a semi-finals contender for the fifth season running. Like many clubs across the competition preseason has been rocky but coach Steve Tzanakes is pleased with the balance he has in his squad.

Departing the club, Tzanakes wanted to particularly mention Eliezer De Faria, Cesar Perego, Mitch Lowe and Dylan Basger who have either moved clubs or retured after being part of the fabric of the side over a long period of time. While they have brought in experienced New Zealand international Jordi Ditford alongside Alex Euripidou and Harry James Biagot. Those players joined by Tallon Zahra who is currently recovering from injury.

Of course, there’s also the likes of captain Robert Ezekiel and Noah Felich who return for the new season. It’s also worth keeping an eye on Paul Gautier who could emerge as one of the leagues better targets. They open their season at home against Sydney Futsal Club, this coming Saturday.

Mascot Vipers

Last season: 1st (37 points, Champions)

After winning both the premiership and championship last season, Mascot Vipers will come into the 2025 season as one of the favourites for the title once again this time around. Indeed the Vipers put together a 15 match unbeaten stretch last season in a remarkable run to the crown.

As such, it was mainly about keeping the squad together heading into the season. They will be without Dylan Niski who is pursuing outdoor opportunities as well as Michael Geologo and Kyle Devine.  While a familiar face to the league in Corby Fowler makes his return to the scene, Fowler a nice fit into their style of play while also being a team mate of the Quilligan brothers. Also expect to see some youth men’s players join the squad throughout the season.

Expectation is high at the Vipers once again and they once again have set the target of silverware. Can anyone stop them this time out? They begin their season at home against UTS Northside this Saturday.

Mountain Majik

Last season: 3rd (26 points)

There’s a new coach and couple of exciting signings at Mountain Majik for season 2025. Having been building for a couple of seasons now, Nicholas Verdos has taken charge of the Open Men’s side for the season ahead.

The squad is pretty stable heading into the campaign with a particular focus on bringing players from their youth sides in the Men’s competition. They will compliment the likes of Jordan Guerreiro, Anthony Haddad and Jamie Dib who act as their established core. While the signings of Kevin Dos Santos and Henrique Pimenta add a Brazilian flair. And let’s not forget Majik favourite  Christopher Barbera who has returned this season.

Having been in the mix for a couple of seasons now, there’s a determination to do better in the competition this season with silverware the goal. They play the season opener this Friday night against Dural Warriors away from home.

Sydney Allstars

Last season: 2nd (30 points, Runner Up)

Coming into the 2025 season, it feels like a new dawn at the Sydney Allstars with a fresh rebrand and Open Men’s squad heading into the new campaign. Coached by Peter Spathis, the goal is too go one better than they did last time out.

They are set to field one of the youngest squads in the division with their focus going forward being to promote from within. And their coaching staff believe that plenty of their youngsters are ready to take centre stage with an exciting brand of futsal. Many of their squad also featuring in a successful winter league campaign in which they finished as champions.

As such, there are still lofty expectations at the club despite the loss of plenty of experience. But there’s enough quality there to believe they will be there come seasons end. They begin their season with a trip to Canberra this Saturday evening.

Sydney Futsal Club

Last Season: 6th (FPL2)

Promoted into the division in 2025, Sydney Futsal Club will be looking to make their mark in the competition after a mixed campaign in FPL2 last time out. Under no illusions about the challenge ahead, they know that any point will be well earned this season.

The challenge for the club has been rewarding the players who got them into the league, while also strengthening their teams on the pitch ahead of the season. The club quite happy with some of the recruitment they’ve made to bolster the squads.

When asked about the goal for the season, the response was clear in that they just want to survive. Expect them to fight tooth and nail to achieve it, they kick off their season with a trip to face Eastern Suburbs Hakoah before three straight home games at their new home of the Heffron Centre.

UTS Northside

Last Season: 7th (9 points)

Another side who are chasing post season football are UTS Northside who are looking to improve on their campaign last time out. One of the few sides who are happy with where they are going into round one, they are prepped and excited heading into this weekend.

They have made some key additions in personnel bringing in Eliezer De Faria from Eastern Suburbs Hakoah as a goal keeping option. While Jesse Piriz and Kyle Devine have also come into the squad. The coaching team also expecting Will Faulder to make a significant improvement coming through the youth set up and Stefan Rosello.

Expecting a tough competition with a different challenge each week, they are aiming for finals as a starting goal. They face reigning champions Mascot Vipers in round one which will tell us a lot of where they are this season before five straight home games.
