Futsal Premier League Open Women’s 2025 Season Preview

FPL Women

The Futsal Premier League Open Women’s season kick’s off this weekend, let’s check out how each of the teams have recruited for this year.

Boomerangs FS

Last season: 3rd (27 points)

Last season we saw that at their best, the Boomerangs could beat anyone qualifying for a maiden finals appearance in the process. So there’s a new found confidence at the club as they hope to go one better in the 2025 season.

The squad has a familiarity about it with the majority of players returning though they do have a few players battling niggles in the lead out to round one. While Rachael Corbett won’t be playing this season and Dianne Wilson has moved to Sydney Futsal Club. The club looking to replace them with some youth coming in which should improve mobility.

There’s definitely reason to be excited about the Boomerangs in 2025 who begin their campaign Saturday week with their first away trip of the season. Can they go one step further in the Futsal Premier League competition this season?

Dural Warriors

Last season: 5th (18 points)

Dural Warriors will come into season as one of the youngest sides in the division. With only a handful of senior players in their midst, they are keen to see a talented group of girls from their 17s squad can prove themselves in the Open Womens competition.

As such, theirs been some notable departures from last season with Nikkita Fazzari signing with an Aleague womens squad and both Samantha Nagy as well as Rachel Perrins stepping back due to work commitments, though the latter will be available for a few games across the season. In terms of players coming in, Despina Vasiliadis has returned to the club and trained well in the lead up.

Expect to see a hardworking side playing with plenty of commitment playing the Dural Warriors way, every player having a role to play throughout the season. We’ll see them for the first time in action Saturday week when they take on UTS Northside away from home.

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah

Last season: 2nd (28 points, Champions)

Champions in 2025, its a new challenge for Hakoah FC and head coach Mel Keith as they look to defend their title this campaign. Coming into the season with plenty of success in the outdoor game, preseason has seen a different approach heading into round one.

On the pitch, Mel Keith is confident she has a mentally strong and determined team at her disposal despite losing Clare Holder to Mountain Majik and Alvina Khoshaba to an outdoor opportunity while Keira Danes is also taking a season off. Replacing them, we should see some youth players come into the squad with Ellie Alexander, Olivia D’Alessandro and Tea Mucenski all promoted into the squad.

While Danielle Cannarella and Olivia Mitchell return from a injury/short stint away respectively. With a stronger competition set to take place this season, growth as a team is the only real goal for Eastern Suburbs Hakoah. They face Sydney Futsal Club in round one action this weekend.

Mascot Vipers

Last season: 4th (23 points)

Always a contender in the competition, the Mascot Vipers are looking primed to strike in season 2025. With a new coach and strong squad on paper, they are confident that they can replicate the VIpers creative style displayed by their Open Men’s counterparts.

When it comes to their squad for the season ahead, the word that comes to mind is balance with a mixture of international experience and hungry youth players. Francesca Grange, Jasmine Limon and Helena Halios-Lewis join an already star studded squad which includes Trudy Camilleri, Amy Barker and Sarah Moore who has just recently completed a two month stint in Portugal.

While there’s also junior Matilda Mikayla Duong, Zoe Panagopoulos and Abbie Pickett to add flair to the side. Speaking of which, they are coached by Conor Quilligan for the season ahead. They kick off their season against UTS Northside at the Heffron Centre.

Mountain Majik

Last season: 7th (8 points)

Mountain Majik are set for a return to form in 2025 with some key additions giving them a familiar look to that of the 2023 season. Adding some experience to a side which had an average age of under 20 last season, thy are confident so surprising a few this time around.

The big story for the Majik coming into this season is the return of the Holder sisters to the side. Clare having played for Hakoah last season and Monique returns to the game. Chlloe Gordon and Halle Thomas also notable returns/additions. Those players complimenting the players involved in the winter league including Jakeelie Hook, Keira Schwereb and Angelina Zaiter who all had successful campaigns in that competition.

With seven players registered in their squad, we can also expect to see some Majik youth players break into the squad in the season ahead, they begin their season with a round two fixture against UTS Northside to be played Saturday week.

Sydney Allstars

Last season: 6th (12 points)

After showing improvement last time out, the Sydney Allstars have undergone a rebrand in the off season and will want to keep their improving on their table position in the new season. Picking up three wins last year, they were competitive in most games pushing the two grand finalists to the edge in the second half of the campaign.

As such, there wasn’t really a need to rebuild with stability the key feature coming into the 2025 season. Key players Demi Koulizakis, Estelle Fragale and Te Reremoana Walker all return for the Allstars, while Carla Abou-haidar backs up from their winter league campaign. Michael Borg set to lead the women’s side for the campaign.

Across the board, the competition look to be fierce and there’s no reason to think that Sydney Allstars won’t continue to be on their upward trajectory in the upcoming season. They kick off their season with a round two fixture against Eastern Suburbs Hakoah.

Sydney Futsal Club

Last season: 2nd (FPL2 Champions)

The Open Womens Sydney Futsal Club side played a big part in getting the club promoted into the FPL competition and they’ll be hoping to prove themselves in the top tier in 2025. Winning the grand final last season in FPL2, a lot of the squad will back up this campaign.

Amongst the squad, we are aware of Dianne Wilson who has made the move from Boomerangs FS but otherwise, the squad is stable with at least seven of their players playing a part in last seasons FPL grand final win over SD Raiders Futsal.

However, the club as a whole know that this season will be a challenge in the top tier, one they’ve done their best to be ready for but a challenge nonetheless. They face Eastern Suburbs Hakoah in their opening clash before three straight home games at the Heffron Centre.

UTS Northside

Last season: 1st (34 points, Runner Up)

Having achieved either a premiership or championship in the past three seasons, UTS Northside will be one of the favourites once again going into the new season. Having to bring a few players into the team to cover a couple of injuries, there still is a quiet confidence about the group.

We’ll mention those injuries because they are considerable absences in Daisy Arrowsmith who won the 2024 player of the season as well as Ariella Cabezas who is still recovering from ankle surgery. Coach George Lethbridge hoping that the likes of Halle Smit, Alexia Karrys-Stahl and Tamires Souza can step into their shoes alongside new recruits Alice Thompson, India Horsley and Chloe Smith.

It’s a pretty new group but they’ve had time to prepare and they are confident in the players coming in. They open their season against against Mascot Vipers in perhaps the pick of round one action before a run of home games.
