History was made at the 2025 NAIDOC Cup, as Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) were crowned overall Champions for the first time in the tournament’s proud history.

The prestigious three-day First Nations event, held on Guringai Land at the Sydney Academy of Sport in Narrabeen, showcased the incredible spirit, culture, and talent that define the NAIDOC Cup. The competition kicked off with a vibrant Opening Ceremony, setting the tone for a week full of skill, passion, and community pride.

The final result came down to the slimmest of margins — a single goal proved the difference between the two football organisations. Ironically, it was Northern NSW’s Under 16 Girls, who despite losing 2-1 in their final match, scored the crucial goal that secured the overall title for their region.

“Today was an exciting day of football,” said Ellie Kerr, Football NSW’s Diversity, Inclusion and Club Development Coordinator.

“Both Football NSW and Northern NSW Football showed their talent, resilience and determination.

“While Football NSW may have just come short in the race to the Championship for the first time in four years, all Football NSW teams made their community proud.

“We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.”

Match Highlights

  • Under 14 Boys
Northern NSW claimed the series with back-to-back strong performances, including a commanding 6-2 win. Despite the result, Football NSW’s Jacob Kladis impressed with a well-earned double.
  • Under 14 Girls
Football NSW continued their dominance in this age group, winning 4-1 in the second match to take the series. Captain Markie Robinson led by example opening the scoring from the spot, supported by strikes from Jasmine Barrett, Mariyah Hammoud, and Imogen Wynne.
  • Under 16 Boys
After a 5-0 loss in their opener, Football NSW showed improvement but were defeated 2-0 by a relentless NNSWF side, despite playing most of the second half with only ten men.
  • Under 16 Girls
Football NSW secured their series win with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Lacey Wynne and Bonnie Young in a strong performance from the Blues.
