Match of the Round: Hawkesbury City FC 4-3 South Coast Flame FC

Hawkesbury City FC had a hat-trick hero to thank in their seven-goal thriller, 4-3 win against South Coast Flame FC, in a fixture which once again produced plenty of goals.

After an even start to the match, the Flame grabbed the lead in the 25th minute when a ball in behind down the left saw a good cross played into the middle for Thomas Dunn, who slotted the ball home to give the Flame the 1-0 advantage.

Hawkesbury responded from the kick-off when Vincent Dermilio crossed the ball into the box for Aaron Peterson, who found the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.

The Flame created more chances in the next twenty minutes, hitting the post and forcing Hawkesbury goalkeeper James Lowery into a few saves.

Hawkesbury took a 2-1 lead in the first minute of stoppage time when Wade Giovenali won the ball in the South Coast corner, beat two players and cut the ball back to Dermilio just inside the box, who slotted the ball home to give Hawkesbury a 2-1 lead at the break.

South Coast levelled the match at 2-2 in the 52nd minute when a cross into the box found Jordan Roberts, who struck the ball on the volley and found the back of the net.

The Hawks responded four minutes later when Stuart Gosling crossed the ball into the box from the left, Aaron Peterson forcing Flame goalkeeper Nenad Vekic into a good save before finding the back of the net on the rebound to give Hawkesbury a 3-2 lead.

Michael Trajkovski made an impact off the bench for the Flame in the 71st minute when he got on the end of a ball into the box and found the back of the net to level the match at 3-3.

Hawkesbury once again had a positive response in the 73rd minute when they won a corner; Lincoln Gilmour put the ball into a dangerous area and Peterson flicked a header home to complete his hat-trick and give Hawkesbury a 4-3 lead.

Hawkesbury held on to that lead to pick up a big 4-3 win over the Flame.

The win for Hawkesbury was their third-straight to start the season as they remained unbeaten, while the loss for the Flame was their first since Round 1.
