Round 4 Review – League One Women’s

Round 4 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition had plenty of moments to enjoy across the six games which included a pair of derby contests. It also meant through four weeks, the whole competition has collected some points. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: SD Raiders FC 4 defeated South Coast Flame FC 0

SD Raiders FC won 4-0 against South Coast Flame FC down at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts put in a superb performance to collect their second win of the season. Youngster Markie Robinson opened the scoring in the 37th minute then Taiana Almeida scored right after half-time for 2-0 then a brace from Aoife Horgan in the 65th and 68th minute rounded it off.

The Flame will look back on missed opportunities in the first half which cost them in this contest. Molly Lawless hit the post while Shaylee Meehan and Emily Kostovski both hit the side netting.

SD Raiders FC authored the first shot of the game. Taiana Almeida feed through Markie Robinson who fired right at Flame keeper Sophie Emery.

The Flame responded with a slick movement which ended up with Sariah Wilson putting her effort right at SD Raiders FC custodian Natasha Pentecost.

The visitors worked the offside trap well and it allowed Shaylee Meehan to run through on goal but she shot straight.

Next, Emily Kostovski wriggled free and got into the box and whipped an effort into the side netting.

Flame went closest to opening the scoring in the 24th minute. Meehan snatched the pass and launched the counter for Molly Lawless to thump the post.

SD Raiders FC almost picked the pocket of the Flame defence. Erin Phelan cushioned it to Abigail Boag who forced Emery to tip over.

The hosts made it 1-0 in the 37th minute. Aoife Horgan combined with Almeida who cut it across to Robinson to tap home.

Boag almost doubled SD Raiders FC’s advantage before half-time. She cut inside well and fizzed an effort straight.

SD Raiders FC were flying right after half-time. Almeida was put through and she finished well to make it 2-0 in the 46th minute.

They were in full flow after the second goal. Boag had another surging run which ended with another strong stop from Emery.

SD Raiders FC made it 3-0 in the 65th minute. Horgan turned well close to the box and arrowed an effort into the left corner.

She doubled her delight and made it 4-0 for SD Raiders FC in the 68th minute. It was a rapid counterattack which ended with Horgan sliding home.

Flame kept pushing for a goal until the final whistle. Wilson curled an effort straight towards Pentecost.

SD Raiders FC saw out the rest of the game well to earn their second win of the season and their first clean sheet.

Post match, SD Raiders FC coach Samir Al-seblani reflected on a dominant win for his side in the Match of the Round:

“First half was a bit closer than it needed to be but once we scored the second, the flood gates opened and we got the job done. They are a good team, so it is good for us to get the win this afternoon.”

For South Coast Flame FC coach Daniel Naumovski looked back on the missed opportunities which cost his side:

“The first half chances cost us and we couldn’t come back. We have been good to open the season but couldn’t repeat that today.” said Naumovski.

Blacktown City FC 1 defeated by Blacktown Spartans FC 2

Blacktown Spartans FC were 2-1 winners against Blacktown City FC at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday night.

The Spartans earned bragging rights against their neighbour in a pulsating derby contest in the Sunday sun. It was Blacktown City FC who struck first through Nyssa Castillo in the 23rd minute for 1-0 before Makayla Crouch equalised in the 38th minute for 1-1 from a direct ball from Helena Daniele.

The game continued at a fast pace in the second half as both teams looked to take home three points against their rival. Spartans turned to livewire Rita Boateng to turn the tide. Boateng showed all her skills and arrowed into the bottom corner in the 84th minute to make it 2-1 Spartans and earning them derby delight.

Newcastle Jets FC 9 defeated Central Coast Mariners FC 0

Newcastle Jets FC won 9-0 against Central Coast Mariners FC at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Sunday.

It was a derby demolition from the Jets who move to the top of the League One Women’s ladder for the first time. Aaliyah Kilroy opened the scoring in the 7th minute for 1-0 then Makayla Clifton made it 2-0 in the 8th minute in a fast start for the Jets in the F3 derby.

Clifton added her second in the 19th minute to make it 3-0 Jets at the break. The flood gates opened in the second half for the hosts. Kilroy got her second in the 51st minute for 4-0 then Clifton completed her hat-trick for 5-0 in the 54th minute then quickly scored a fourth in the 57th minute which made it 6-0.

Jets made it 7-0 in the 64th minute with Clifton collecting her fifth goal on a fantastic afternoon for the academy side. Mackenzie Preston-Poole followed up her goal scoring effort from last weekend with a good finish in the 65th minute for 8-0 then Emily Garnett rounded off the win with her goal making it 9-0 in the 85th minute.

Nepean FC 2 defeated Marconi Stallions FC 1

Nepean FC won 2-1 against Marconi Stallions FC in their contest at Jamison Park on Sunday evening.

The hosts pick up another big scalp to continue their early season form. Nepean FC made it 1-0 through Tiana Louise-Barton who headed home. Marconi Stallions FC equalised through Erinn Cleghorn who curled home a fabulous strike in the 39th minute for 1-1 at half-time.

Both sides threw everything they could at the contest to get three points and it took until the final ten minutes for something to break the deadlock. Nepean FC captain Gemma Morgan nodded home in the 84th minute for 2-1 and earn Nepean FC three points.

Camden Tigers FC 0 defeated by St George FC 1

St George FC won 1-0 against Camden Tigers FC in their contest at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday evening.

The Saints get their season off and running with three points against a tough to break down Camden Tigers side. St George FC were the stronger side in the first half but couldn’t convert their chances and it went to the break at 0-0.

Aya Seino was the player to finally unlock the Camden Tigers defence in the 47th minute. She fired home to make it 1-0 for St George FC and score her sixth of the season. The Saints held out a late charge from the Tigers to get the win.

Bankstown City Lions FC 2 defeated Inter Lions FC 0

Bankstown City Lions won 2-0 against Inter Lions FC in their clash at Jensen Park on Sunday night.

The Lions open their account for the 2026 season with a solid win against a committed Inter Lions side. All the action in this game happened in the second half after the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.

Inter Lions FC were reduced to 10 when Belinda Anderson-Sharp got a red card in the 58th minute but they did get a lifeline two minutes later. They earned a penalty and Jenny Hughes stepped up and had her effort saved by Bankstown keeper Emilija Vidakovic.

Bankstown City Lions FC made their advantage pay from a set piece in the 69th minute when Chelsea Greguric swept home for 1-0. Inter Lions FC battled until the final whistle but Bankstown City Lions FC made it 2-0 in the 95th minute through Karen Bennett.
