Round eight in the Football NSW League One Men’s competition features some key fixtures, with teams jostling for position and momentum in the standings. Match of the Round: Western City Rangers v Rydalmere Lions
7:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Popondetta Park
Western City Rangers host Rydalmere Lions in the standout fixture of the weekend.
The Rangers were unable to fulfill their Round 7 fixture due to weather but suffered a surprise Australia Cup defeat to Strathfield FC last week. They will be eager to make amends this Saturday night.
Their season has been defined by wins over expected sides and narrow losses elsewhere. Key players to watch include Shayden Sampow, Dimo Dimo, and Rocco Fragale.
Rydalmere Lions secured an important win over Central Coast Mariners last weekend, keeping them in contention. Sitting 7th, they have three wins, three draws, and one loss this season.
Sa Huk Yang scored the decisive goal off the bench in that match, while Steven Kriezis and Isaac Cunningham will be pivotal for this fixture.
You can catch this game and all matches of the round live on the FNSW YouTube channel.
Hurstville Zagreb v Hakoah FC
8:00pm, Friday 27 March – Penshurst Park
Hurstville Zagreb return to winning ways after last weekend’s victory over Canterbury Bankstown, aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Two set-piece goals highlighted their confident performance.
Hakoah FC aim to arrest a slide down the table after a defeat to Prospect United last weekend. A result here would be crucial for their season prospects.
Blacktown Spartans v Central Coast Mariners
8:15pm, Friday 27 March – Blacktown Football Park
Blacktown Spartans begin a four-game home stretch against Central Coast Mariners.
The Spartans have struggled defensively in recent matches but have attacking options in Abbas Reda, Darcy Ellem, and Angus Chance.
The Mariners are facing squad depth challenges, coming off four winless games and a loss to Rydalmere Lions in their first away match of a five-game stretch.
Newcastle Jets v Northern Tigers
5:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility
The Newcastle Jets host ladder leaders Northern Tigers in what promises to be an unpredictable contest.
Newcastle overcame a poor start against Blacktown Spartans last week, with Jake Goodwin scoring twice and Angus Reid his first goal of the season.
Northern Tigers come into the match having not won last weekend, salvaging a point through Jesse Spang’s late equaliser. This game presents a different tactical challenge against a possession-minded Jets side.
Hills United v Inter Lions
5:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Valentine Sports Park
Hills United earned a point last weekend against Northern Tigers, showing they have what it takes to compete this season.
Yuki Kanai scored their goal and was a significant threat in the first half, providing confidence for this match.
Inter Lions showed promise post Shane Cevenini’s resignation, narrowly losing to Macarthur Rams, but with only four goals scored and nineteen conceded this season, it remains a tough fixture for them.
Bankstown City v Macarthur Rams
6:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Jensen Park
Bankstown City aim to continue their resurgence with a fourth consecutive match, following last weekend’s away win against Dulwich Hill.
Blake Ricciuto played a key role, with Shun Maeta making his first appearance off the bench.
Macarthur Rams sit sixth with a strong defensive record, having conceded only eight goals in seven rounds. Last weekend, captain Alex Gollan helped overcome Inter Lions with an early impact on the match.
Bulls FC Academy v Dulwich Hill
7:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Sydney United Sports Centre
Bulls FC Academy target a third winnable match in succession, pushing towards the top of the table.
They come in refreshed after their Round 7 fixture was washed out, ranking as the second-best scorers and defensively solid this season.
Dulwich Hill put up one of their better performances last weekend despite the loss, showing defensive resilience they hope to maintain.
Prospect United v Canterbury Bankstown
8:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Blacktown Football Park
Prospect United earned their first three points last round, climbing out of the bottom two.
Praneet Singh and Marco Turpeinen scored before the 20th minute in their win over Hakoah FC, giving them a platform to build upon.
Canterbury Bankstown will look to respond after their third defeat, having twice lost leads due to injury setbacks.
