Round 11 Review – League One Men’s
All of the top four secured important victories in Round 11 of the Football NSW League One Men’s competition.
They were joined by Macarthur Rams, who claimed bragging rights in the Macarthur derby, while it was a difficult weekend for sides battling near the bottom as the competition moves into the second third of the season.
Match of the Round: Macarthur Rams 1–0 Bulls FC Academy
Macarthur Rams claimed a hard-fought derby win over Bulls FC Academy in our Match of the Round at Lynwood Stadium.
In the first meeting since the academy side’s rebrand, an Olivier Beltran-Woodward penalty proved the difference between the two sides.
The Rams struck early, taking the lead in the 11th minute after Beltran-Woodward calmly converted from the spot. From there, the hosts controlled much of the territory and dictated field position, looking comfortable in possession and managing the tempo.
Bulls FC Academy’s first real chance to respond came in the 25th minute, when a defensive lapse allowed Justin Cardozo to drive towards goal. His effort from the edge of the area was well dealt with by Jerome Narayan, who tipped it over the bar.
At the other end, Macarthur threatened to double their lead from set pieces. Michael Martin headed wide under pressure in the 33rd minute, before again going close four minutes later from a Jacob Esposito delivery as the Rams continued to apply pressure.
Much of the first half was played on the hosts’ terms, with Macarthur heading into the break deservedly in front.
Dan Mijovic’s side had a golden chance to extend their lead just three minutes into the second half, earning an indirect free kick near the penalty spot. The second phase saw captain Alex Gollan test Mason Hartnig from distance, with the Bulls goalkeeper producing a strong save to tip it around the post.
Moments later, Christian Torrelli had an even better opportunity, racing onto a ball in behind, but Hartnig stood firm again to make a comfortable save.
Those chances came as Macarthur looked to manage the game in transition, sitting on their lead through the opening stages of the second half.
Bulls FC Academy’s best chance of the period came through Helweh, who combined centrally before cutting in from the left and forcing a strong save from Narayan as his curling effort headed towards the top corner.
Macarthur then had chances to seal the game in the 87th minute, with Chan Yelchan forcing a reaction save from Hartnig, while Beltran-Woodward was twice denied on the rebound.
Bulls FC Academy had one final opportunity deep into stoppage time, when Massimmo Marrone sent a dangerous ball flashing across the face of goal, but no finishing touch arrived.
Macarthur Rams now sit fifth, three points outside the top four, while Bulls FC Academy remain just below them, two points further back.

Blacktown Spartans 4–0 Prospect United
Blacktown Spartans claimed the inaugural Vella Cup with a commanding win over a resilient Prospect United.
Despite the scoreline, the first half was far more competitive, with Prospect United doing well to limit the Spartans while creating chances of their own—including a Praneet Singh effort that struck the crossbar from distance.
However, finishing proved the difference. Darcy Ellem was the standout, producing a clinical hat-trick, opening the scoring in the opening quarter hour before adding two excellent second-half finishes. Aedon Kyra played a key role, assisting all three of Ellem’s goals before adding one of his own late on.
The Spartans delivered a dominant performance in front of a strong crowd, fully deserving of the trophy.

Maeta was central to the result, opening the scoring in spectacular fashion in the 13th minute, beating his marker on the left before driving along the byline and finishing from a tight angle.
The hosts doubled their lead early in the second half when Jason Cakovski finished from close range after a square ball from Bai Antoniou. Aleksander Gvozdenovic also impressed for the home side throughout.

Rydalmere Lions ended Newcastle Jets’ six-game unbeaten run with a 2–1 victory at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.
The Lions remain firmly in the top-three conversation on the back of their own five-match unbeaten streak and now turn attention to a key clash with Northern Tigers next weekend.
Despite Newcastle controlling possession for large parts, it was Rydalmere who went into the break ahead through Adil Toska in the 21st minute, with Steven Kriezis again proving difficult to beat in goal.
A frantic spell around the 67th minute decided the match. Newcastle equalised through Luca West, but Rydalmere immediately responded as Toska completed his brace shortly after.

Hurstville Zagreb will now turn their attention to a midweek cup clash with APIA Leichhardt, while Northern Tigers face a top-three showdown with Rydalmere.
