Big Wins and Cup Drama Define Sapphire Cup Round 4 Action
Round 4 of the Sapphire Cup delivered a spectacular mix of dominant victories, standout individual performances, and high-drama encounters as teams battled for progression in the prestigious knockout tournament.
One of the most dominant displays came from Northern Tigers FC, who produced a ruthless attacking performance to defeat Central Coast Mariners 7-1 at North Turramurra Recreation Area. Seven different players found the back of the net in a complete team effort, with Bo Burton, Eliza Brown, Lily McMahon, Ellie Head, Olivia Meacock and Tanaye Morris all scoring, alongside an own goal from Ava Moller on a night to remember for the home side.
There was another emphatic result at Valentine Sports Park, where Hills United FC overwhelmed East Gosford City 11-0. Aya Seino starred with a brilliant hat-trick in a commanding performance that underlined the side’s attacking depth.
Meanwhile, UNSW FC continued their strong Cup run, eliminating fellow NPL opposition Sydney Olympic FC 2-0. First-half goals from Demi Koulizakis and Chloe Smith proved decisive at The Village Green, sending UNSW into the next round.
Reigning champions APIA Leichhardt FC were tested early by Dunbar Rovers at Reg Bartley Oval, with Alice Smith opening the scoring for the hosts inside seven minutes. However, APIA quickly asserted their class, responding through Dolly Fava, Imogen Lane, and braces from Anabel Carbone and Ashlee Brodigan to secure a 6-1 victory and progression.
Elsewhere, Illawarra Stingrays advanced with a solid 2-0 win over Camden Tigers, while Western Sydney Wanderers FC proved too strong for Macarthur Rams, claiming a 4-2 victory at Lynwood Stadium.
Arguably the match of the round came at Blacktown Football Park, where Manly United FC defeated Blacktown Spartans 6-2 after extra time in a dramatic encounter. After a scoreless first half, the match exploded into life with late Manly goals from Anita Zordan and Jasmine Robinson forcing extra time. Despite being reduced to 10 players following Chloe O’Brien’s red card, Manly United produced a stunning extra-time surge, led by a hat-trick from Zordan to seal a memorable victory.
The round concluded with SD Raiders FC overcoming Coogee United 5-1 at Cirillo Reserve. Goals from Taiana Almeida, a brace from Sarah Mandile, Abigail Boag and Aoife Horgan secured a strong win and progression into Round 5.
With goals flowing and drama across the board, Round 4 once again highlighted the growing depth and competitiveness of women’s football in NSW as the Cup race continues to intensify.
