Change of Guard at Nepean FA as New Leadership Drives Grassroots Growth into 2026
The Nepean Football Association is set to enter an exciting new chapter in its history, with long-serving Chief Executive Officer Linda Cerone announcing her retirement after an extraordinary 28-year tenure at the helm.
Cerone’s departure marks the end of an era for Nepean FA, with her total involvement in football spanning an incredible 34 years. Throughout that time, she has become a cornerstone of the Association, leaving behind a legacy defined by passion, integrity and an unwavering commitment to grassroots football.
Her leadership has helped shape and strengthen the Nepean FA across decades of growth, with Cerone playing a key role in the development and ongoing success of several major initiatives, including Nepean Dragons FC, the inclusive All-Abilities program, Nepean FC, the Nepean Referees’ Group, and the long-running Nepean Summer Football competition.
Widely respected across the football community, Cerone’s influence has extended far beyond administration, with her work helping to create opportunities for players, volunteers and families across the region. Her contribution has been instrumental in building an inclusive and community-driven football environment that continues to thrive today.
As Nepean FA farewells Cerone, the Association is also embracing a forward-focused vision for 2026 and beyond, with Alicia Green stepping into the role of CEO.
Green takes over at an exciting time, with Nepean FA continuing to strengthen its commitment to player development and structured pathways across all levels of the game.
A key focus moving forward is the continued growth of the Talent Development Program, introduced in 2026 to provide a clear progression pathway for players from grassroots football through to elite opportunities.
Alongside the reintroduced and reshaped skills development programs, the initiative aims to ensure players are supported at every stage of their journey.
The structured pathway model is designed to not only introduce young players to football in a fun and inclusive environment, but also to identify and nurture talent early, providing consistent development opportunities aligned to age and ability.
Importantly, the pathway creates a clear link between community football and representative opportunities, with a direct progression into Nepean FC, the Association’s representative arm.
By offering a defined roadmap for progression, Nepean FA aims to strengthen long-term participation, grow engagement across the region, and continue producing players capable of progressing to state and national honours.
As the Association looks ahead to a big 2026 grassroots season, the combination of experienced leadership transition and strengthened development pathways signals a confident and exciting future for football in the Nepean region.
