Round 20 Preview – League One Men’s
Round 20 of the FNSW League One Men’s competition sees eight simultaneous kick-offs take place this Saturday afternoon.
With this the final round before the mid-year registration window opens, teams will be looking to build momentum heading into the final ten rounds of the season.
Match of the Round: Hakoah FC v Northern Tigers
Saturday 20 June, 4:30pm – Hensley Athletic Field
Our Match of the Round sees second-placed Northern Tigers make the trip to Hensley Athletic Field to face a Hakoah FC side who have picked up some important results in recent weeks.
If you had offered Hakoah FC seven points from their last four games, they would likely have taken it given the calibre of opposition they have faced. Their most recent outing was a hard-fought draw against Central Coast Mariners last Friday night.
A goal on the brink of half-time from Nicholas Tooley changed the complexion of the match, before Valentin Cuny added a second after also playing a key role in the opener. It was a valuable result for Hakoah given they were missing seven players heading into the fixture. They also boast a strong home record, with 14 of their 24 points coming at Hensley Athletic Field.
Up against them this weekend are Northern Tigers, who appear to have recovered from a mid-season dip with two wins from their past three matches. Last weekend they overcame a stubborn Inter Lions side at North Turramurra.
With their 10th clean sheet of the season secured, plenty of credit goes to a disciplined defensive unit led by Alen Aganovic and Oliver Scott. Further forward, Ryan Attard is in strong form after scoring last weekend, and he will again combine with Jesse Spang as key attacking threats this Saturday afternoon.
You can catch this fixture live on the FNSW YouTube page via the live tab, with kick-off set for 4:30pm.
Last Meeting: Northern Tigers 2-0 Hakoah FC
Elsewhere
Bankstown City v Central Coast Mariners
Saturday 20 June, 5pm – Jensen Park
Bankstown City will look to home comforts to inspire a bounce-back performance when they host Central Coast Mariners.
Plenty of attention will be on Bankstown City this weekend as they look to respond to their heavy defeat at the hands of league leaders Blacktown Spartans last time out. With reinforcements expected in Round 21, it is crucial they do not drop further points here.
A potential boost could come in the form of Alec Urosevski and Robbie Speranza, who were unused substitutes last weekend. The question remains how big a role they will play in this fixture.
They face a Central Coast Mariners side eager for revenge following their Round 5 meeting. The Mariners come into this clash off back-to-back draws against Dulwich Hill and Hakoah FC, having steadied the ship after two prior defeats.
Despite the results, last week was one of their stronger performances of the season, with the youthful side dominant in spells but unable to capitalise on their first-half control.
Last Meeting: Central Coast Mariners 1-4 Bankstown City
Dulwich Hill v Blacktown Spartans
Saturday 20 June, 5pm – Arlington Oval
Competition leaders Blacktown Spartans travel to Arlington Oval to face Dulwich Hill, chasing their first away win since Round 12.
This is far from a straightforward assignment, with Dulwich Hill proving a tough opponent in 2026. Last weekend they drew with Prospect United in a gritty Sunday night encounter.
In a match where chances were limited, coach Berhan Ackalzam was pleased with the performance considering squad depth constraints. Jan Schimit and Micaiah Te Rata stood out defensively.
Blacktown Spartans, meanwhile, were at their dominant best against Bankstown City in last week’s Match of the Round. They now look to deliver another “statement” performance on the road in their push for promotion.
As has been the case in recent weeks, Aedon Kyra and Darcy Ellem led the way in attack, but it was a complete team performance across the pitch. The Spartans won the first meeting between the sides 2-1 back in March.
Last Meeting: Blacktown Spartans 2-1 Dulwich Hill
Inter Lions v Western City Rangers
Saturday 20 June, 5pm – Majors Bay Reserve
A crucial bottom-half clash sees Inter Lions host Western City Rangers at Majors Bay Reserve.
For a lower-half side, the challenge after a strong run is maintaining consistency, which is exactly the situation Inter Lions now find themselves in heading into this six-pointer.
After defeating Hurstville Zagreb a fortnight ago, they narrowly lost to Northern Tigers last weekend in a hard-fought contest that featured plenty of bookings. They will be without Owen Duke, Patrick Scibilio and James Adrianakes through suspension.
Western City Rangers, meanwhile, continue to show promise without the results to match. Sitting five points below their opponents, this is arguably their biggest game of the season.
Last week’s draw with Hurstville Zagreb saw Shayden Sampow continue his strong form, while Rocco Fragale and Jared Macerola remain key figures controlling midfield.
Last Meeting: Western City Rangers 2-1 Inter Lions
Newcastle Jets v Macarthur Rams
Saturday 20 June, 5pm – Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility
Newcastle Jets suffered a chaotic defeat at Jensen Park last weekend against Canterbury Bankstown, conceding six goals in a high-scoring encounter. While results have been inconsistent, the match provided valuable lessons for their young defensive unit.
The positives came in their attacking play and resilience, nearly mounting a comeback. Ethan Debono stood out with a hat-trick of well-taken goals.
They now face a Macarthur Rams side looking to bounce back from their Round 19 defeat to Hills United — their first loss since the turn of the season. Despite a spirited second-half comeback attempt, they ultimately came away empty-handed.
Player to watch is Chan Yelchan, who scored a brace in an impressive individual performance. The Rams have a strong record of responding after defeats in 2026.
Last Meeting: Macarthur Rams 1-1 Newcastle Jets
Hills United v Prospect United
Saturday 20 June, 5pm – Valentine Sports Park
Hills United will see their Round 20 clash with Prospect United as an opportunity to secure back-to-back wins as they aim to push into the top-two race heading into the final third of the season.
Last weekend, they were impressive in a strong away win at Lynwood Park. Their attacking movement drew praise from opposition staff, while Zen Gigliotti once again impressed in midfield.
Prospect United, meanwhile, were unable to secure a third win of the season after drawing with Dulwich Hill. However, they created four or five strong chances and will look to be more clinical here.
Interestingly, both of their wins this season have come away from home, something they will hope to replicate in this fixture.
Last Meeting: Prospect United 2-3 Hills United
Rydalmere Lions v Canterbury Bankstown
Saturday 20 June, 6:30pm – Rydalmere Park
Rydalmere Lions returned to winning ways last weekend for the first time in nearly two months with victory over Bulls FC Academy. With momentum finally building, they now look ahead to a key clash against Canterbury Bankstown.
Two major positives from last week were a clean sheet — their first since Round 12 — and Adil Toska scoring his first goal since Round 14. However, they will be without Jackson Bandiera, who is suspended after a second yellow card.
Canterbury Bankstown also showed positives and negatives in their high-scoring encounter last weekend. They extended their unbeaten run and continue to close the gap on teams above them.
Leading the charge is William Kounnas, who hit a hat-trick to take control of the golden boot race. He is well supported by Fikret Berisha, who also impressed with a brace. Both are key players to watch.
Last Meeting: Canterbury Bankstown 0-0 Rydalmere Lions
Bulls FC Academy v Hurstville Zagreb
Saturday 20 June, 7pm – Sydney United Sports Centre
Bulls FC Academy remain one of the more unpredictable sides in the competition, sitting ninth on 26 points and winning just one of their last five matches.
Three of those four matches have seen them struggle for goals, although squad rotation has played a role in their inconsistency. They will be expected to respond here as favourites.
A win for Hurstville Zagreb could see them move above the hosts with a third of the season remaining. They will be eager to respond after a draw with Western City Rangers last weekend.
It was a scrappy contest with few chances, and improving attacking output will be key here. If they do, Allesandro Lacalandra will likely be central again, having scored in each of his last six matches stretching back to Round 13.
Last Meeting: Hurstville Zagreb 2-4 Bulls FC Academy
