Manly United 23-year-old attacker Ellie Kerr is preparing for the biggest match in the club’s history as they gear up for their first-ever Sapphire Cup Final against UNSW FC at Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday 15 July.

For Kerr, the occasion represents more than just a shot at silverware, it is a reflection of how far the women’s program at Manly United has come, both on and off the field.

“Reaching the final is a true testament to everyone’s dedication at the club,” Kerr said.

“It means so much to not only the players and staff, but also the junior players coming through. A lot of the girls in our squad coach within the club and serve as real role models for the younger generation.

“For us, it’s about showing them that Manly is a winning side and that hard work and commitment pay off. Winning the Cup would be incredibly special for everyone involved.”

Standing in their way are UNSW FC, a side Kerr is full of respect for ahead of the final.

“UNSW FC are a quality side with some incredible players,” she said.

“We respect what they bring, but for us, the focus is on what we do best, which is our connection and depth as a team. We’ve proven throughout the season that we can step up against strong opposition. We’re excited for the challenge, and I think both teams will put on a great performance.”

Manly United’s path to the final has been built on consistency and defensive resilience, with clean sheets in both the quarter-final and semi-final highlighting their structure and discipline.

“So far, we’ve been a strong side and have shown quality moments that reflect all the hard work we’ve put in,” Kerr said.

“When we come up against top teams, that’s when we perform at our best. On Cup Final day, you can expect a determined and united performance from us. We are excited to take the step even further.”

Beyond results on the pitch, Kerr also reflected on the broader growth of women’s football within the club and the environment that has helped shape Manly United’s rise.

“The growth of women’s football at Manly has been amazing to watch,” she said.

“Not only has the standard continued to rise, but the level of support and investment has grown significantly.

“It’s a bit of a ‘pinch me’ moment when we see younger girls coming to our matches with signs for the players. Many of the senior players also coach within the club, giving the younger girls genuine role models to look up to.

“There’s a real belief in what we’re building here, and it shows in the opportunities we’re given and the culture that’s been created. We’re proud to be part of it and excited to keep pushing women’s football forward at Manly.”

With history on the line, Kerr says the message to supporters is simple.

“We’re so excited to see you all there. Your support means everything to us. Come down in your colours, bring your signs, and get behind the team. We’ll be giving it everything and playing for you on the day.”
