World Champions join the 2020 Australian Coaching Conference
Two members of the legendary US Women’s National Team of the 1990’s will speak at the 2020 Australian Coaching Conference being conducted by Football NSW.
As key members of the US Women’s National Team that dominated women’s football in the 1990’s, winning the 1991 and 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cups and the Gold Medal on home soil at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and again in Athens in 2004, Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy need little introduction. Together they have represented their country 466 times including participating in the Sydney 2000 Olympics where they won the Silver Medal losing out to Sweden in the Final 20 years ago at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Chastain and Foudy will join another women’s football legend, former Matildas coach Tom Sermanni, and together with conference co-host, ESPN Reporter Ms Stephanie Brantz they will discuss a range of topics including ‘Creating a Winning Mindset’ and the culture that drove one of the most successful teams in sport, and winning a World Cup on home soil, particularly pertinent to the Matildas in the leadup to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Sermanni was coach of the Matildas in numerous games against the USWNT during his two stints with the Australian national team, and was Head Coach of the US from 2013-14 – one of four national teams that he has been involved in.
Football NSW’s Head of Football, Peter Hugg, commented on their involvement in the Conference,
“To have Brandi and Julie participate, on the back of the recent announcement of Arsene Wenger’s keynote address, is extremely pleasing and adds to an outstanding line-up for the day. Anyone who follows women’s football knows the iconic stature of these two amazing footballers, both on and off the pitch. In particular, their involvement in a number of community causes since their retirement from the game is testimony to their commitment and passion to making the world a better place, and provides an enduring legacy to their involvement in the game.”
