In The Technical Area with Zoe Anderson
Zoe is the current Under 15 Girls Head Coach at South East Phoenix FC.
When did you first start coaching and why?
When I was 17, I started to coach because I wanted to inspire the young footballers of the south coast what it is like to coach and play at the same time whilst understanding the coaching principles.
What do you think are the 3 main characteristics of a successful coach?
Dedication, commitment and application of self.
How do you keep developing yourself as a coach to be the best you can be for your players?
By taking the opportunities given to me. I have been very fortunate to receive some great development opportunities in my time coaching, for example I have been given the opportunity to be an assistant coach of the Country NSW under 14s team at this year’s NYC competition as well as the Legacy scholarship towards my B Diploma, which saw support not only for the course but also mentoring opportunities between my Part 1 and Part 2.
If you could turn back the clock, what advice would you now give to yourself when you first started coaching based on the experiences you have had?
Take every downfall and turn it into a learning opportunity. Apply yourself to the very best of you ability at everything you do as you can’t always be perfect and always do a perfect job, learn from your mistakes to help you grow!
