Round 4 Preview – League One Women’s Preview
Round 4 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition promises to be another action-packed affair across the weekend.
There are seven games to enjoy including some blockbuster clashes and the Match of the Round between Camden Tigers and South East Phoenix FC.
Let’s get onto the preview.
Match of the Round: Camden Tigers vs South East Phoenix FC, Sunday 24 March, 3pm, Ron Dine Reserve
Camden Tigers host South East Phoenix FC at Ron Dine Reserve for the Match of the Round on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers opened their League One Women’s account with a 2-0 win against Nepean FC at Ron Dine Reserve last weekend.
Coach Alex Prophet hopes that win can be a springboard to the side to build up some results in the next few games.
They will have shared the goal scoring around this season and hope to find the back of the net a few times on the weekend.
South East Phoenix FC were beaten 3-0 in their game against Blacktown City FC at Landen Stadium last weekend.
The young side went through a lot of change in the off-season and they will take some time to pull together some results.
Beth Tomlinson and Sarah Kilby both have remained from last season and can lead the side forward and hope to produce an upset.
This game will be streamed live on the Football NSW YouTube with rising star Beau Clements behind the microphone for the clash.
South Coast Flame FC vs Sutherland Strikers FC, Saturday 23 March, 3pm, Sir Ian McLennan Park
The round kicks off with South Coast Flame FC hosting Sutherland Strikers FC at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday afternoon.
Flame had the first draw of the League One Women’s season in their 1-1 result against SD Raiders FC.
Back on their home turf, South Coast Flame FC will look to get their second win of the season and maintain their strong home record.
Leading the way for Flame is captain Alexis Malizis who will marshal her troops to break down the Strikers defence.
Sutherland Strikers tough start continued with a 3-0 loss to Hills United FC at Bella Vista Public School last weekend.
The Strikers remain positive despite losing their first three games of the season and took a few steps in the right direction.
They remain one of the two sides without a goal thus far and hope to find the back of the net on Saturday afternoon.
Marconi Stallions vs SD Raiders FC, Sunday 24 March, 3pm, Marconi Stadium #2
Marconi Stallions face off against SD Raiders FC in their game at Marconi Stadium #2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Stallions featured in the Match of the Round and were beaten 7-1 by Bankstown City Lions FC last weekend.
Despite the loss, the Stallions did score the first goal against the Lions all season through Erinn Cleghorn which they can build on.
The combination between Cleghorn and Julie Figueria will be vital to them breaking down a robust SD Raiders FC side.
SD Raiders FC remain unbeaten after their 1-1 draw with South Coast Flame FC at Cirillo Reserve last Sunday.
They sit in fourth spot and have set themselves a good platform to build on for the rest of the season.
Fast starts have been a big aspect of SD Raiders FC’s play through three games and they will want another quick start on Sunday.
St George FC vs Nepean FC, Sunday 24 March, 3pm, Ilinden Sports Centre
St George FC take on Nepean FC in their game down at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints were the late, late show again in their 3-1 success over Inter Lions FC away from home last weekend.
Sharpshooter Jordan Baker was the hero with a pair of goals and the striker continues to be a constant on the scoresheet.
Alongside her, Kyla Vanderlaan has chipped in with some key goals and will be vital to their success on Sunday.
Nepean FC were beaten 2-0 in their clash against Camden Tigers which took place at Ron Dine Reserve last Sunday.
It will be a big game for Nepean FC keeper Jasmine Crouch against one of the more prolific attacking teams in League One Women’s.
There has been weekly improvements for Nepean FC and they hope it can lead to their first points of the season.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers vs Hills United FC, Sunday 24 March, 3pm, Popondetta Park
Mt Druitt Town Rangers face off against Hills United FC at Popondetta Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Town Rangers fought hard but fell late to the Mariners in a 2-1 loss at Popondetta Park last weekend.
The hosts will be keen to bounce back from their first defeat and take a big scalp against Hills United FC.
It will be a big game for both Town Rangers keeper Renee Krstanovska and Hills keeper Sarah Easthope in a mouth watering clash.
Hills United FC were comfortable 3-0 winners against Sutherland Strikers FC at Bella Vista Public School last weekend.
They haven’t been at their best but have picked up nine points in the League One Women’s so Coach Alan Tasses will want them to be at their best this weekend.
He will look to strikers Isabella Sciberras and Kaylie Shannon to find the back of the net in this early season encounter.
Bankstown City Lions FC vs Central Coast Mariners, Sunday 24 March, 3pm, Jensen Park
Bankstown City Lions welcome Central Coast Mariners to Jensen Park for a blockbuster on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions put in another strong performance in their 7-1 Match of the Round win over Marconi Stallions last weekend.
This is the biggest test for the Lions thus far against a fellow unbeaten side which should promise fireworks at Jensen Park.
While the attack has taken much of the praise through three weeks but the Lions defence has only conceded one goal in 270 minutes.
Central Coast Mariners left it late but defeated Mt Druitt Town Rangers 2-1 in a pulsating game on the coast.
The Mariners have hit the ground running in the League One Women’s competition and Dan Barrett will have them up for this game.
They will be without Jessica Garrett after her red card against Mt Druitt which will weaken their defence.
Blacktown City FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 24 March, 4pm, Landen Stadium
Rounding off the weekend is Blacktown City FC hosting Inter Lions at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Blacktown City FC bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 win against South East Phoenix FC at Landen Stadium.
Eloise Hansen has been an early star for Blacktown City FC with two goals this season and aiming for more on Sunday.
Both of Blacktown City FC’s win have come at home and they will aim for a hat-trick of home wins in this contest.
Inter Lions FC battled hard in their 3-1 defeat to St George FC at Majors Bay Reserve last weekend.
The Lions were in the game for most of the time against the Saints and they will use that momentum to try and pick up their first points of the season.
They will look to goal scorer from last weekend Alicia Lee to double her tally and push them forward on Sunday.
