Two Central Coast Riders Join Forces for the 2008 Postie Bike Challenge

Murray Nettheim and Scott McMullen have never done this kind of ride before and are keenly looking forward to undergoing just under 4000 kilometers of off road riding in ten days.
?I have never done an event like the postie bike challenge. I have been riding bikes since I was a kid and got my bike license at 18?. Scott (now 30) said.
?I?ve have ridden throughout some parts of northern Thailand and the Japanese alps, other than that just kicking around on the coast on dirt bikes.?
Scott has done some great work for charities over the last ten years. ?I have competed in about 9 Bash Events for The Endeavor Foundation, Australian Kidney Foundation and for the past 5 years Cystic Fibrosis Australia. I have a trusty Datsun 1600 Bash car.
All up I guess I have raised $50 ? 60,000 and pretty much covered most of NSW, SA, NT, Northern WA and outback QLD on these bash events.?
Asked about this adventure Scott was extremely optimistic, ?I have never been up to the Gulf. I get a lot out of raising funds for the abovementioned charities and also love traveling through remote Australia. Nothing better than chatting with the locals in an outback pub I say? and they are just as interested in our way of life as we are theirs.?
?The Bash events take a hell of a lot of organizing and I really just don?t have the time this year with work and my wife has just had another baby. So this way we still get to raise funds and get out there on a Bike!!! ?
The Postie Bike Challenge is new for Scott, especially when it comes to preparation.
?In terms of what to take etc… I guess I am also a bit of a learner when it comes to doing this all on a bike. I have been as high as Winton and Longreach and over to Cairns and I can certainly tell you it is going to be warm to very warm! I don?t think it is going to be a walk in the park in any way shape or form?
Murray Nettheim
Murray Nettheim is a Central Coast resident and has been so for over 20 years and works locally with Central Coast Football (soccer) as their Operations Manager.
For the last two years Murray has raised sponsorship monies for the Australian Leaukaemia Foundation in their ?Shave for a Cure? campaigns in 2006 and again in 2007, having had his head shaved by Central Coast Mariners Coach, Lawrie McKinna in 2006 at Pluim Park Lisarow.
Also in 2007, Murray raised funds and awareness for men?s Health by participating in ?Movember?
Murray?s efforts so far have raised over $10,000 to valuable causes, and along with being a long term Australian Red Cross Blood and Plasma Donor, this year Murray?s cause will be different to previous efforts.
Also another long time rider, Murray started riding on the family farm at the age of 9, and despite a couple of year?s away, always enjoyed riding.
?At the conclusion of the ride I will be donating the Postie Bike to Rotary Australia for the charity work in Australia and overseas, in whatever way they see fit?.
?This isn?t a race, it?s about getting a group of like minded people together and having some fun along the way. We?ll probably see parts of Australia we would never normally visit, so it?s going to be extremely special?.
The 10 day event begins from Brisbane on September 7 and depending on road and weather conditions will wind its way through western Queensland, and ending on September 17 with the finals day ride from Cooktown to Cairns via the Daintree Rainforest.
The majority of the rally will be covered in outback Queensland on dirt and off road tracks.
Sponsorship of the riders and the bikes are allowed, please note that this is NOT A TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION, but purely sponsorship.
Murray and Scott will be seeking support for this event by offering sponsorship opportunities on the bikes.
The ?Postie Bike Challenge? is covered by media throughout Queensland, a television program is planned, along with DVD release, as well as magazine, newspaper and TV coverage throughout the event.
?The Postie Bike Challenge? is from September 7-17, 2008 and any sponsorship will be greatly appreciated.
Both Murray and Scott will make themselves available for any media or news event (upon prior arrangement and confirmation). If you are interested in other forms of sponsorship or exclusivity sponsorship for each or both riders please contact either Murray or Scott for discussion on this topic.
