Matildas stars visit Sydney Olympic

Regardless, the game has moved on and the other half of the population, the females have taken it to the guys and have proven that whatever a man can do; a woman can do and in fact do it better. Australia?s national women?s team, the Matildas are ranked higher than their male counterpart the Socceroos on the FIFA World Ranking, in 10th position.
The Matildas have been crowned Oceania Cup Winners on three occasions and also won the AFC Women?s Asian Cup in 2010.
Most recently, the Matildas participated in the 2011 FIFA Women?s World Cup where they progressed to the quarter finals, yet were subsequently eliminated after they were defeated 3-1 by Sweden. Earlier this year the Matildas were subjected to criticism from the media, as they failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Nevertheless, the Matildas remain idolized by aspiring female footballers around the nation, with young girls hoping to emulate the careers of several renowned Matildas.
Many of these young girls are members of the Sydney Olympic FC women?s teams who received a surprise visit from some of their idols at a recent training session.
Former Sky Blues FC and Saint Louis Athletica star, Sarah Walsh gathered team mates, Danielle Brogan and Kyah Simon and attended the training sessions of the Sydney Olympic women?s teams and were impressed with the caliber of the girl?s skills and commitment.
Sydney Olympic FC Women?s Convenor, Tim Kapsimalis appreciated the visit and believed that the session was beneficial for the girls who one day wish to play in the W-League and represent the nation abroad.
?Our under 12?s and under 14?s teams felt privileged to receive the surprise visit and they were super excited from the word go?, Kapsimalis revealed.
The Matildas began the session with a small discussion and outlined what is to be expected of a professional footballer, in doing so they revealed the importance of good nutrition and eating habits and further discussed the implications of drug use in sport.
?The elite players provided feedback to the two teams and most importantly emphasized the importance of being part of a team. ?A value that the entire Sydney Olympic Football club promotes ?, Kapsimalis added.
The surprise visit will forever be remembered by the Sydney Olympic FC women?s teams who obtained the rare opportunity to play alongside and be mentored by the footballers they admire.
