What Is the Talent Support Program
Football NSW overall aim is to provide our most talented young players (boys & girls) a best practice and high performance training and playing environment that will hopefully see them progress through to the A-League, W-League and ultimately any of the various National Teams.
Overview
Football NSW have reviewed the player development and identification pathways and the competitions that support it. This has been driven through our own assessment and guided by feedback provided from our clubs and associations (individually, through the Associations & Women’s Standing Committees).
Coinciding with our review, the FA, as part of their ‘National Talented Player Pathway’, has worked with the member federations across the country to implement bespoke Talent Support Programs (TSP). With this in mind, Football NSW will continue the boys TSP (U14 and U15) and girls GTSP (U14 and U16) in 2021.
Through the evolution of the Program, the Football NSW TSP is primarily match and tournament based, providing additional match minutes in line with the recommendation of the FA ‘Gap Analysis Report’. Through the establishment of several hubs across Metropolitan NSW and within key areas of Country NSW – it will reduce the need for players (and their parents) to travel long distances multiple times per week to participate in a centralised program.
Further, it will enhance the process for talent identification and selection of representative teams and provide additional opportunities for benchmarking and identification for national teams. Selection to the TSP is by invitation only following consultation between Football NSW technical staff, Talent Support Program staff and Club and Association Technical Directors.
