Aytek Genc appointed new Sydney Olympic head coach for 2009

Genc is a name very familiar to fans of Sydney Olympic and Australian football in general. His first exposure to big time football in Australia was in 1989 when he played for Parramatta Eagles in the National Soccer League under coach Raul Blanco. During his time at the Eagles Genc was called up by the late Eddie Thomson to play for the Australian national team.
In 1994 Genc moved to Malaysian side Johor FC and remained there for five seasons. During the Malaysian off-season he returned to Australia and played for Sydney United during the 1995-96 and 96-97 NSL seasons under former Sydney Olympic coach Branko Culina. He returned to Australia in 1999 and played out his career with Sydney United until 2002.
Genc worked as the Technical Director of Youth Football at Sydney United from 2002 to 2004 and then was assistant coach at St George before taking up the First Grade coaching position at Blacktown City Demons in 2006 with former Olympic coach Milan Blagojevic by his side. There Genc guided his side to a near clean sweep by winning the pre-season Johnny Warren Cup, the Continental Tyres (Waratah) Cup and the Minor Premiership. Aytek also won the NSW Premier League Coach of the Year award.
In 2007 Blacktown failed to win both the Johnny Warren Cup and the Tiger Turf (Waratah) Cup but made up for it by winning the Minor Premiership and the Championship. Aytek was again awarded the NSW Premier League Coach of the Year honour.
Genc was the assistant coach to Branko Culina at Sydney FC during the early period of the 2007-2008 A League season before the duo parted ways with Sydney FC. Since then Genc has been actively involved in many football clinics throughout Sydney.
Sydney Olympic Football Club welcomes Aytek to the club and wishes him every success.
In other First Grade news the Club would like to thank Nathan Sherlock, Chris Triantis and Matthew Jurman for their service to Sydney Olympic and wishes them the best of luck for their A-League careers. Sherlock has signed with Central Coast Mariners while Triantis and Jurman have joined Sydney FC.
