Match of the Round
Gazy Lansvale v Luddenham United
Gazy Lansvale has secured a hard fought victory defeating Luddenham United 1-0 at Cherrybrook Park on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tight contest throughout with both sides producing a competitive spirit. F. Wilson was outstanding for the home-side, taking control in midfield as he searched for the breakthrough. L. Stanowski was dangerous for the Luddenham side early on, involved in most of the midfield action.
The first shot of the match arrived from the home-side when M. Jirjnazi created space inside the 18-yard box, unleashing a shot which was all too easy for Luddenham goalkeeper M. Hartas. The away-side nearly broke through the Gazy defence in the 17? minute when D. Farre struck a shot off a set piece creating a good opportunity, however A. Kurtovic was up to the task and made a sensational save.
D. Farre had another chance this time striking a shot from 20-metres out, a good low strike just missing to the left of goal – a sensational effort. A. Hartas came close for the away-side just before the break when P. Corso put in a well placed cross from the left side; Hartas got a touch on it however it curled out to the left. It was a tight first-half; Luddenham the side with the better chances.
Luddenham came out with renewed confidence and nearly struck the opening goal, a one-on-one chance involving D. Iris and A. Kurtovic. Kurtovic charged at Iris, the goalkeeper produced a sensational save, diving to the right to keep his side in the game. Gazy Lansvale began to dominate in the latter stages of the half and with Luddenham failing to take their chances Lansvale playmaker F. Wilson set his intentions on victory. The in-form player was linking well with A. Rashid, and with six regular starters out for the home-side, the side was showing a lot of courage.
In the 63? minute F. Wilson struck a sensational free-kick from the left side, pin-pointing into the centre, but it missed the touch needed in the middle to open the scoring. Substitute R. Oz scored the only goal of the game in the 71? minute when he found space off a through ball. R. Oz chipped it neatly over M. Hartas to give the home-side the all important three-points, the home crowd in full voice as the home-side held on for a memorable win.
Safet Manager of the Gazy side was delighted with the result:
?I am very proud of the boys, we had six regulars missing today and we managed to collect all the points it was an amazing performance.?
Andrew Montgomery coach of Luddenham said that his side were beaten by the better side on the day regardless of the chances:
?We missed good chances and it is happening to often, when we create chances we fail to finish and it?s an issue for us at the moment.
?We played well in the first-half but it wasn?t enough, the better team won today and full credit goes to Gazy who I thought played some quality competitive football today.?
