?When I had a look at the squad on paper and the successful core of players I knew we would be competitive this season.
?I thought if we managed to avoid too many injuries and suspensions we would do well although injury particularly could have had taken its toll early on.
?We?ve also managed to blend the experience with some young guns and they have not let us down (especially at the beginning of the campaign when the side did suffer a lot of injuries) but they came in and kept us going and as the players returned to the side we have been able to continue up the league.?
However Tsekenis rightly doesn?t single out particular players preferring to put it down to a team effort: ?Everyone has so far performed to their fullest potential so it isn?t a case of any one or two players getting us where we are but a real team effort and that is what I expected of the guys and they have delivered.?
With the final?s approaching, is it a case of wanting to get a week off to rest niggling injuries or keep playing?
?Realistically everyone wants to be the Premiers but most teams prefer to play week in, week out to keep their momentum going but the reality is it really depends on the situation that presents itself.
?If you are carrying knocks it?s great to get the week off to rest and recuperate but otherwise I think most prefer to keep going if the squad is fully fit.
?Mind you, we did win a Grand Final when I was a player some years back where we only played two games in 5-weeks.?
Tsekenis is a wily old pro who cannot be drawn into anything remotely controversial or be brought against him by other teams so his response to whether he has a message for the other final?s teams he simply states: ?Look, anyone can beat anyone in this league let alone during the final?s series so my answer to that is no I don?t have a message for the others but like them we are all looking forward to playing those matches,? he laughs.
?I do feel the referees have been having an outstanding season to date and look forward to that continuing on for the remainder of the season.?
One of the games gentleman and we wish all teams the very best for the remainder of the year and to those in the final?s series. It promises to be a sensational end of year spectacular.
