Michelle Carney crowned inaugural ?Joey Peters Player of the Match? award

Representing the Stingrays for the past couple of seasons, Carney grabbed a brace in the South Coast based side?s stunning Grand Final victory which was also her 100th match for the club.
?The Joey Peters Medal could have gone to anyone actually, they all played well, I was the one to get it,? Carney stated to the Illawarra Mercury.
The club captain stated that this was probably one of the sweetest victories she had tasted throughout her illustrious playing career thus far.
?It?s totally up there, from going down to going straight back up and winning the Premiership and the Grand Final is just a great effort.
?It?s sweeter that this our first season back up, but it puts pressure on us next year to keep the standards high.
?I was just happy just to get a win ? 6-1 is unbelievable,? Carney stated to the Illawarra Marcury.
Known as one of the best female midfielders to ever grace the green and gold, Peters began her career with the Matildas in 1996, scoring 28 goals in 110 caps.
Peters retired from international football in early 2009 after a sequence of international friendlies against Italy.
Peters enjoyed spells with various New South Wales clubs including the NSW Sapphires (WNSL), Sydney United, Sydney Olympic, Marconi Stallions, Sutherland Sharks and the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS).
