The major coup was finalised on Monday following discussions with Club President George Giannaros and the former Australian Institute of Sport Head Coach.
Smith will work with the coaches at Sydney Olympic leading up to and including the 2010 Premier League season and provide his valuable insight into how to best develop the talent of their young footballers.
Sydney Olympic was understandably thrilled with the appointment especially of Smith?s calibre.
Sydney Olympic Youth coach and Club Football Manager Harry Paraskevaidis said.
?We are absolutely delighted to have Ron on board with our club.
?His knowledge and experience is second to none. Having Ron here will benefit our youth immensely.?
When asked about the positive changes being made at Olympic this season, Club Vice President Graham Athanaseris added.
?We are serious about giving both our players and coaches the best possible opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills for the future.
?The fact that we were able to secure someone of Ron?s standing further demonstrates our commitment to do just that.”
Smith?s vast coaching and football analysis experience has seen him have spells with English Premier League giants Liverpool FC, Malaysian clubs Johor FC and Sabah FA as well as his lengthy stay with the AIS in Canberra.
