Katie was a participant in the recent 2010 FFA U13 National Junior Championships in Canberra, along with 3 other NSW EDP members.  In recognition of her performance and ability to implement national officiating techniques, Katie was selected – ?Referee of the Tournament?.
Credit also went to fellow officials Surrey Hodges (Manly), Sarah Priestly (Orange), Mel Bell (Central Coast), Grant South (Macarthur), Nick Brisbane (Sutherland) and James Meechan (Macarthur) who all played a pivotal role in the running of a number of the 2010 FFA U13 National Junior Championships in Canberra.
All of these young officials are products of the Training and Development Program put in place by the State Technical Committee comprising of Steve Fenech, John Parker, Sharon O’Neill and Jenny Bray.
These programs draw on the extensive knowledge and skills of the STC instructors to produce prospective elite officials that are at the leading edge of Australian officiating.
When asked about the successes of his young referees Steve Fenech stated his delight with the progress of these talented officials.
?I am extremely proud of their achievements and felt that each one had worked hard to apply the skills and techniques that they had been taught by the STC.
?Each of them are a credit to themselves and to Football NSW and they should all be justifiably proud of what they had done in the short period of time (3 years) that they have been part of the program.
?Successes such as these are unprecedented in the history of refereeing in this state and it’s all down to the efforts of the STC and the support of Football NSW.?
The recent achievements of referees from Football NSW at the National Titles is also attributed to the establishment of the Referees Elite Development Panel (EDP) and the intensive coaching sessions and regular inspections conducted by the State technical Committee and its Assessors.
Football NSW/STC has selected 120 potentially talented referees onto the 2010 EDP for future development and ongoing coaching.
This initiative has seen the EDP increase from 90 last year to 120 and is now a much sought after appointment by young aspiring referees.
