Football NSW State Titles kick-off in cold and wintry conditions
Down on the South Coast at South Nowra Football Complex the Under 11s titles began and it was Metro Far South leading after the first day with six (6) points from two fine wins over Metro South (3-1) and Metro Far North (3-2), closely followed by Metro East on four (4) after defeating Country Southern 2-1 and drawing with Country Riverina 2-2.
Further west at Rawlings Park, Wagga Wagga it was the 14?s doing battle in very cold and soon to be wet conditions. This time it was Metro East grabbing the headlines with two great wins over Country Riverina (3-1) and Country Southern (1-0). Currently second in this category was Metro Far South on four (4) points following a 1-1 draw with Metro North and resounding 3-0 win over Metro Far North.
The 15?s had the best of the weather at Kiama Sporting Complex at Kiama and the battle is really on here with two squads grabbing maximum points. Metro Far North have defeated Country Western 3-0 and Metro Far South 1-0 while Metro East defeated Country Southern 1-0 and Metro North 2-0.
Finally, in freezing Bathurst (I can vouch for that) it was the Metro South boys that certainly set the pace with a 3-1 win over Metro Far North and then a late afternoon defeat of Metro North. Metro East are next best on Day One with a 1-0 win over Country West and a 0-0 draw with Country Southern. All everyone was talking about at the end of the day however was the clash on Day Two between Metro South and Metro West, which looks to be the match of the day.
Day Two on Tuesday will begin to sort the true contenders and with the threat of some unsettled weather to go with the already cold weather it will make for a true football competition for all concerned.
