The youngsters, who represent the very best in the regions from Kiama through to Sutherland, played roughly two games a day to secure six wins and one draw. The teams that competed included Metro North, Metro South, Metro East, Metro West, Metro Far North, Metro Far South, Riverina, Western and Southern
?The kids bonded very well and played for each other,? said Coach Robert Riggs.
?They understood some of my rules to keep the ball in play, steer the ball into the back of the net and keep things positive.
?At the end of each game, they each received 30 seconds of feedback which I think helped them a lot,? explained Riggs, before adding that he was ?very proud of each and every one of them.?
The tournament, which was played at South Nowra Soccer Fields from July 5th ? July 9th, saw the best U/11 players from across NSW showcase their talent for future Project 22 and State Team selection opportunities. Metro Far South selected just 16 players from a possible 93 with trials open to metro league and club players.
With fierce competition, Metro Far South handled the pressure very well as they absorbed the talent from other Project 22 players despite not having very much time together to get ready.
Although the entire team performed brilliantly, a few players who stood out were goalkeeper Rohan Limebeer, Blake Currey, James Bell and Cooper Beswell.
?Rohan had an excellent tournament in my opinion, while Cooper, Blake and James were outstanding also,? said Briggs
?I enjoyed seeing how James was able to create something out of nothing; all I had to do was give him some guidelines and he took it all in.
?He is definitely an untapped talent,? he added.
Asked what his thoughts were on the future of these youngsters, Riggs explained that they all have the possibility of going far with the game so long as they stay out of trouble.
?All these players are on the right path and if they continue doing the right thing and if they stay on the right track, they can go far,? explained Riggs who is also part of the Rockdale City Suns coaching committee and the Sutherland Development squad.
