Football Stars of Tomorrow Episode 9 Run-Down

ONE TO WATCH: In 2006 when Football Stars of Tomorrow first went to air on Australian television, the very first player profiled was an 11yo “Star in the Making” – TERRY ANTONIS. Five years on, Terry has signed a professional contract with SYDNEY FC after being courted by some of the world’s biggest clubs. We find out how life is treating Terry in 2010!
CELEBRITY CHALLENGE: In Episode Eight, world number two surfer SALLY FITZGIBBONS set a benchmark that looks impossible to beat. The former schoolgirl international footballer scored a maximum of 50 points!! That’s right – five out of five in the same top corner of our special goal. This week, MASTER CHEF star GEORGE CALOMBARIS tries to equal that feat with some helpful advice from Melbourne Victory captain KEVIN MUSCAT. It was the perfect setting at the famous Melbourne Grammar School. Another challenge not to miss!!
COACHING TIP: Every football coach will tell you how important your ‘first touch’ is on game day. FNSW High Performance Manager PAUL BENTVELZEN shows us how this key part of your game can help your game!
NSW STATE CUP: It’s Amateur football’s version of the FA Cup but the NSW State Cup has become one of the most competitive Amateur Cup competitions in Australian football. It’s rare to find two clubs from the same Association – let along same suburb – meet in a final! That was the case in the recent Under 13 final when FAIRFIELD HOTSPURS met old rivals FAIRFIELD PATRICIAN BROTHERS at Valentine Park.
STAR OF THE WEEK: It’s probably the most difficult job in football but Australian referees have developed a great reputation both here and abroad. In NSW, JOHN PARKER has helped make that pathway so much easier with a development programme first implemented in 1996 in conjunction with ex-National League Referee Gary Power. John has been based in the ST GEORGE ASSOCIATION since 1956 and this famous Association now boasts a record five officials on the National Panel. John is certainly a worthy Star of the Week.
MY CLUB: They say Kiama is the gateway to the south coast of NSW. Not many people will argue that point but away from the scenic spots in this idyllic coastal village is the grand old KIAMA JUNIOR Soccer Club. ELISA SKOROULIS (U12 Girls) and LAUREN MARKHAM (U16 Girls) take us behind the scenes at a club which has doubled it’s numbers in just the last three years!!
NSW PREMIER LEAGUE FINALS SERIES: It’s week two of the business end of the NSWPL with highlights from two more finals matches. Premiers BONNYRIGG WHITE EAGLES host BLACKTOWN CITY FC with the victor becoming the first side to qualify for the Grand Final. It’s sudden-death out Edensor Park way with SYDNEY UNITED at home to giant-killers APIA LEICHHARDT TIGERS, who have lost just once since round nine!!
GOAL OF THE WEEK: It seems the contenders just seem to get better and better – all having a chance to win a great gift pack from HUMMEL. This week we pay tribute to the MOSMAN PUMAS Under 9s team from Sydney showcasing five goals from their recent game against the Beacon Hill Trojans.
