This was an important date for everyone concerned and the quality of the play more than matched the demands of the occasion.
Grade 13
Major Semi Final
Premiers Sydney University had taken all the points when they met third placed Central Coast Lightning during the competition, winning 3-1 in the first round and then 2-0 in the second round.
On this occasion Lightning kept fighting back and the forced the game into extra time when the scores were locked at 1-1 at the final whistle of normal time.
Extra time produced a goal each from both sides putting it to 2-2 with the dreaded penalty shootout required to settle the issue. It was here that uni came to the fore, winning the contest 4-1 and earning the first place in the Grand Final while Sydney University will play in the Preliminary Final.
Minor Semi Final
When second placed Spirit FC faced fourth placed Mounties Wanderers during the competition all the points had gone to Spirit as they won the first round meeting 1-0 and they followed that up with a win by the same scoreline in the second round.
However, this time the Wanderers turned the tables when they were 2-0 winners and that was enough to put them through to the Preliminary Final while Spirit have now fulfilled their commitments to the finals series.
Grade 14
Major Semi Final
Dulwich Hill are the 2010 Premiers and they grabbed the first round points from their clash with Spirit FC with a 1-0 win but then they second round fixture ended in a 2-2 draw.
This time dully proved to be a bit too strong for Spirit as they registered a 3-0 result and that has allowed them to take the direct route to the Grand final while Spirit will play in Saturday?s Preliminary Final.
Minor Semi Final
During the competition third placed Sydney University had bagged all the points from their clashes with fourth placed with a 3-1 first round result and then a 1-0 victory in the second round.
Mounties took their revenge for those losses as they knocked Uni out of the finals series with a 2-0 result that puts the Wanderers into the Preliminary Final.
Grade 15
Major Semi Final
Granville Rage are the Premiers in this age group and they took the first round points from third placed Spirit FC with a 1-0 win but then Spirit squared the ledger with a 1-0 second round success.
Granville gained the upper hand this week when they recorded a 2-0 result that has earned them the first berth in the Grand final while spirit will play in the Preliminary Final.
Minor Semi Final
Fourth placed Parramatta Eagles had beaten second placed Sydney University when the faced each other in the first round of the competition and then Uni had squared the account when they were 2-1 winners in the second round.
This time the teams battled out a 2-2 draw and that meant extra time was required to find a winner. It was here that Uni came good as they scored a goal to post a 3-2 final score and that has earned them a place in the Preliminary Final while the Eagles have bowed out of the finals series.
Grade 16
Major Semi Final
Spirit FC are the Premiers and they had taken the first round points from second placed Parramatta Eagles when the won 1-0 but then the Eagles got square when they came up with a 2-1 victory in the second round.
Spirit bounced back to claim victory this time with a 1-0 result that has put them straight through to the Grand Final while the Eagles will play in the Preliminary Final.
Minor Semi Final
Fifth placed Sydney University had claimed the first round points from third placed Macarthur Rams when they met in the first round of the competition and then the teams battled out a 1-1 draw in the second round.
This week the Rams were just a bit too good as the recorded a 2-0 scoreline to earn a position in the preliminary Final while Uni have bowed out of the finals series.
Grade 18
Major Semi Final
Spirit FC are the Premiers this season and they had beaten third placed Parramatta Eagles when they faced them in the first round and then Spirit prevailed again with a 1-0 result the second time around.
That form held good this time as Spirit claimed the first spot in the Grand Final with a 2-0 result while the Eagles will now compete in Saturday?s Preliminary Final.
Minor Semi Final
Fifth placed Dulwich Hill were 2-1 first round winners over third placed Northern Tigers when they met in the first round but then the Tigers claimed the second round points with a 4-2 result.
On this occasion the Tigers came to the fore with a very solid 4-1 triumph that has placed them in the Preliminary Final while Dully have now completed their commitments to the finals series.
