Women’s Premier League Round 13 Preview
Round 13 of the Women’s Premier League lies ahead of us with 6 enticing games on the agenda, each with their own meaning and value.
It is hard to look passed the battle royal preparing at Marconi Stadium as the Marconi Stallions take on the North West Sydney Koala’s. Both sides know that victory will move them a step closer to the minor premiership as they lie in positions one and two with only goal difference putting the Stallions ahead of the Koala’s.
The match is set to kick off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. It will prove to be a blockbuster as Heather Garriock and co look to edge ahead of the Koala’s and make amends for the earlier loss in the season where the Koala’s came out victors with a 4-2 score line.
In the early game on Sunday afternoon at 1pm, the 6th placed Sydney University SFC will to continue their march toward finals football as they host the Central Coast Mariners Academy who lie in 10th at Wilson Park.
The earlier clash in the season at Pluim Park ended the way of Sydney University SFC as they came away with a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
At 3pm on Sunday the Blacktown Spartans welcome the Macarthur Rams to Blacktown Football Park. The Spartans, who lie in 9th are clinging to their hopes of finals football while the Rams will still be smarting from their heart wrenching stoppage time loss last week to table toppers Marconi. The Rams will be looking for a victory to continue their fight for the minor premiership.
The round 2 fixture went the way of the Rams as they came away from Lynwood Park with a 2-0 win and will be looking for more of the same this time around.
Concord Oval and the Inter Lions welcome the Northern Tigers on Sunday at 3pm. The Inter Lions suffered a shock 8-0 loss last week and will be hoping to bounce back to keep alive their minor premiership hopes. The Northern Tigers on the other hand are still looking for their first victory of the season and a wounded Lion could be their opportunity to pounce.
The Inter Lions won the first game between these two by 3-1.
Manly United take on the in form Northbridge FC at Cromer Park on Sunday at 3pm. Northbridge continue their surge up the ladder and after defeating the Illawarra Stingrays, they backed it up with a devastating 8-0 win over the Inter Lions. Manly on the other hand have been unlucky in recent weeks and will look for the luck to go in their favour this weekend.
This first game between these two ended with a 4-2 win for Northbridge.
At JJ Kelly Park on Sunday at 3pm, the Illawarra Stingrays entertain the Sutherland Sharks Football Association. The Sharks couldn’t make it back to back wins after registering their first victory of the season two weeks ago and sit in 11th position. The Stingrays got back onto the winners circle with a victory over the Northern Tigers last week and continue their pursuit of the top two.
In round 2, the Stingrays came away with an emphatic 10-0 win! The Sharks will be hoping to improve from that result.
