Womens State League Round 13 Review
There were a number of classic round 13 Womens State League matches that were played across Sydney over the weekend as Bankstown City FC played host to APIA, Nepean took on St George, Parramatta Ladyhawks travelled to Gladesville while Mt Druitt faced the Southern Districts Emeralds.
Bankstown City FC 7 v APIA Leichhardt Tigers 1
After last week’s draw the girls from Bankstown City FC were out for revenge and by all means they fired on all cylinders with a memorable performance at Jensen Park.
Last week saw a Bankstown side that lacked focus and played with much complacency.
This week’s result was crucial as they needed to consolidate their lead at the summit.
Facing an revitalized APIA side that has somewhat clicked into gear the past few weeks that’s lifted them from the bottom of the table, the Tigers were out to make a statement and cause a major upset. Unfortunately for them, the competition’s leading goalscorer Samantha Muscat found her form and proved why she is the best in the league with a fantastic hat trick.
Melissah Parlato scored two goals while Maniso Michael and Tania Baban also scored with her eighth of the year.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers 3 v 0 Southern Districts Emeralds
The consistency of the Town Rangers has continued to peak as Stefanie Trovato’s brace helped them secure their ninth win of the season.
Elise Robins also netted for the home side as Mt Druitt enjoyed another great day in the office.
Mt Druitt boast one of the best defences in the league.
Their consistent form has given them the confidence to beat anybody in the league including Competition front runners Bankstown City FC.
It was a tough match for the Emeralds who battled well and after securing a good victory against St George last week, morale was high.
No doubt the club will regroup for their big clash this weekend against Nepean FC at Ernie Smith Resrve.
Nepean FC 2 v St George FC 1
Nepean FC grabbed all the bragging rights in their hard fought 2-1 victory at Cook Park over St George FC.
Kaitlin Harms and Steph Lagudi were the toast of Nepean FC as they bagged a goal each to gift the home side the three precious points.
The loss came as a shock to the Saints who have now lost three straight.
For Nepean FC, it was a crucial victory which, on the contrary, put them with three straight victories pushing them further up the ladder.
Parramatta Ladyhawks 1 v Gladesville Ravens 4
Gladesville Ravens were a team on a mission as they defeated the Parramatta Ladyhawks with a 4-1 on Sunday at Melita Stadium.
The game was played in a rather tense affair as the half time whistle blew with neither team on the scoreboard.
The second half was a totally different story as an amazing five goals whizzed through.
Belinda Kayser bagged herself a brace for the Ravens while Amelia Hansen and Danielle Coombs scored the other two.
Courtney Halpin scored the only goal for the Ladyhawks.
