Football NSW applauds the initiative by the NSW Government to refocus the rules around grants to set up a $32 million dollar fund to directly support community sport.
Deputy Premier and Nationals Leader, Troy Grant, made the announcement of funding over four years which will be used to improve suburban and regional ovals, swimming pools and sports courts across the state.
“Junior sporting clubs in our suburbs and regional towns who currently rely on rundown facilities are the big winners,” Mr Grant said.
In an effort to ensure the Future Needs of Football are met Football NSW has been working closely with representatives of the NSW Government. The availability of these grants is a welcome platform for much needed community infrastructure.
As the biggest participant sport in NSW, with a registration base that continues to grow, football holds a unique place in the state’s sporting landscape; played by anyone from under five to over 45, with females making up nearly a quarter of all players, it includes all cultures like no other sport.
Football NSW anticipates this financial commitment, through the revised ClubGRANTS program, will assist in the provision of the growing need for facilities to enable all participants to keep fit and healthy.
With the input of clubs and associations, Football NSW has collated a list of projects which include proposed upgrades of playing surfaces, drainage, change rooms and lighting which would allow its members to play and train in safe, suitable conditions.
Football NSW appreciates the recognition of the need for facilities investment by the NSW Government and we look forward to working with all levels of government to help meet the Future Needs of Football.
A comprehensive study of the economic, health and social benefits of football is currently being completed by football’s governing body in NSW, designed to increase awareness of the sport’s contribution to the community.
As part of Football NSW’s ongoing commitment to improving facilities, information from member Clubs and Associations is invaluable. Please contact Football NSW’s Head of Facilities Development Ricardo Piccioni:
