Results from the penultimate round have sent the PS4 NPL NSW Women’s 1 Preseason Cup wide open.
Pool 1 is open for three teams to qualify for the Grand Final while Pool 2 hangs on a thread, as we wait for a washed out game to be played tomorrow night.
POOL 1 –
North Shore Mariners 3-3 Illawarra Stingrays
We had a six-goal thriller at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday afternoon between the North Shore Mariners and Illawarra Stingrays.
In a high scoring first half, the Mariners moved into the break with a 3-2 lead over their travelling opponents.
A second half goal to the Stingrays made sure that they wouldn’t travel back down the Coast empty handed, leaving with a point after a 3-3 draw.
Goal scorers for the Mariners were Tara Andrews and a brace from Leah Giuffre while Jordan Baker, Lucy Nolan and Caitlin Cooper.
Blacktown Spartans 3-1 Football NSW Institute
At Blacktown Football Park, the Blacktown Spartans took on Champions Football NSW Institute.
The Spartans caused a slight shock here, defeating the Institute squad 3-1 and coming away with a valuable three points that moved them to first place in Pool 1.
POOL 2 –
Manly United 2-0 Sydney University
Cromer Park was the venue for Sundays clash between Manly United and Sydney University.
Both sides needed three points to keep them within touching distance of the first placed Koalas.
Manly ensured the points would stay at Cromer park with a goal in each half. Mackenzie Little and Chloe O’Brien were the scorers for the home team.
