Football NSW gearing up for Female Football Week

Womens PS4 NPL1 2015 Pre Season Final

Football NSW is proud to announce the 2015 Female Football Week set to commence on the 2nd of May where various programs and promotions to support women in football will take centre stage.

From Coaching Courses and School programs to Referees courses, MiniRoos Pilot Programs and football clinics, the week will be dedicated to females and their opportunities within Football and the special roles they play.

Female football has come a very long way in the last decade especially with regards to the increase of player numbers.

The year 2015 has seen a 4.3% increase in player numbers pushing it to 47,779 while 1,374 coaches, 524 referees and 5,400 volunteers also spearhead the continual push for women in the world game.

One big carrot that will surely bring a smile to the many avid Female football participants in NSW is that our very own Westfield Matildas side, currently ranked 10th in the FIFA World Rankings, will be utilising Valentine Sports Park as a training venue prior to their departure for the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Canada.

With that, a special open training session has been organised for Wednesday 6th of May at Football NSW headquarters where player signing and photo opportunities will arise along with a special dinner planned for the girls prior to their departure with the FIFA World Cup commencing on the 5th of June.

The annual Ellyse Perry Challenge will also take place on Tuesday 12th of May at Valentine Sports Park.

Aimed at girls aged between 10-14 years, the event leverages football and cricket (the talents Ellyse shares as a consummate sports star) to encourage girls to lead healthy and active lifestyles and will cap off what will be a fantastic festival of football for the female game.

Female Football Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the opportunities available for female participants to experience our great game from all different viewpoints as Football NSW Game Development Manager Hayley Todd pointed out.

““Female football opportunities are continuously growing and Football NSW are proud to support and acknowledge all females in our sport.

“It’s fantastic to see that we will be venturing out to public schools across Sydney as well as utilising our ‘Home of Football’ facility at Glenwood, promoting our wonderful game.

“With the Westfield Matildas set to take part in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada in June, there is no better time to celebrate and highlight the success of female football in NSW.”
