Matildas and Vietnam play out VSP friendly

Canada bound Westfield Matildas went through its preparations for the upcoming Women’s World Cup when they clashed with Vietnam in a friendly encounter at a closed session match at Valentine Sports Park on Tuesday.
Alen Stajic’s squad held their own as they defeated Vietnam 4-0.
Steph Catley started the goal scoring for the Matildas with a cracking finish while Caitlin Foord got in on the act with some great build up play with a well taken goal taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
The second half commenced just like the first, the Matildas dominated with Kyah Simon and Michelle Heyman adding to the tally as the match ended 4-0 in favour of the Green and Gold.
Out of the 23-player squad seven hail from NSW in total that included Alanna Kennedy, Leena Khamis, Nicola Bolger, Servet Uzunlar, Teresa Polias, Caitlin Foord and Kyah Simon as well as Stajic all who were also part of the NSW Institute of Sport.
The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup will commence on the 6th of June and the Final set for the 5th of July – the team’s first match will be on the 8th of June against the USA with all of their matches beamed live on SBS One.
The Matildas, ranked tenth in the world, have been pooled in Group D, the so called “Group of Death” and will face the USA ranked 2, Sweden ranked 5 and Nigeria ranked 33.
The Matildas will be playing a farewell match on Thursday 21st of May against Vietnam at 6:30pm at Jubilee Oval in Kogarah before flying out to Canada soon after their final game.
