Team of the Week: Round 16
It was an interesting round of football as this week’s PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 Team of the Week took shape.
Blacktown City heads the league ladder and much of that is down to their custodian Nenad Vekic. Vekic has been in scintillating form in recent weeks and another first class performance on Saturday night earned him take his place in between the sticks.
White Eagles Captain fantastic Chris Tadrosse has been ever present in the club’s rise of form as they make another late challenge for back to back Premierships. Tadrosse played a major role in Bonnyrigg’s second goal, crossing in a delightful ball for Ray Miller.
Rockdale City Suns’ new signing Daniel Petkovski put in a stellar performance for his side as they came away with an all-important three points on Sunday afternoon. Being reduced to 10 men, Petkovski worked hard in defence to ensure his side registered a victory.
It was a happy weekend for Sydney United 58 as they got back to winning ways with Theo Kofinas an important screw in his sides defence, repelling opposition attacks and receiving praise from his coach Mark Rudan.
Manly United held a clinic on Sunday afternoon and Sam Gallagher found himself on the score sheet for the first time this season with a goal just before the hour mark. The defender almost helped his side to a clean sheet but the Stallions scored late in the piece.
Sean O’Connell’s Sutherland Sharks went down on Saturday night but the midfielder’s work rate was second to none. He’s been a stand-out for the Sharks this season and if they’re to sneak into the finals, he’ll play a massive role in them.
Panni Nikas’ two goal haul saw Sydney United 58 come home on Saturday night with an important victory. Nikas could’ve had three to his name but he missed a penalty for his hat-trick, nevertheless, his performance merited a spot in the team of the week.
The Bonnyrigg White Eagles are in third place and Ray Miller has been integral for them in midfield. Miller has been whizzing across the park for his team and picked up a goal on Saturday night as the White Eagles made it six games without defeat.
Shu Sasaki continues to catch the eye of the whole league, again finding himself on the score sheet for the Blacktown Spartans, scoring a brace. Sasaki has seen his tally for the season move into double digits with 10 for the year.
Alec Urosevski has found his goal scoring touch of late as the Rockdale City Suns look to climb up the ladder. Urosevski scored a double for side on the weekend and was one of the best on the park.
Manly United took all three points on Sunday afternoon and Brendan Cholakian rounded off their rout with their final goal. Cholakian was a constant threat to the Stallions back line and dually deserved his ninth goal of the season.
