Futsal Premier League Round 6 Review

Dural’s making hay while the sun shines and then spinning it into gold following a rampant 10-1 win over Campbelltown during a split Football NSW Futsal Premier League round-six Saturday night, UTS Northside beating Mascot 2-1 in the other fixture.

With the South Coast versus Enfield and Mountain Majik versus Inner West games postponed, the weekend’s eye-popping results push Dural nine points ahead of Inner West having played two extra games than Magic – five points separate second from seventh. Warriors roll Quake

Dural Warriors made a huge statement in their barnstorming 10-1 win over Campbelltown Quake at Minto Indoor Sports Centre.

It was all over in minutes as Dural dominated from the outset, racing to a 5-zip lead by halftime and the final whistle couldn’t come soon enough for the home side.

The result – the fourth largest margin in five years of premier league – almost left normally-fluid Quake chief Carlos Martinez speechless… … … almost.

“You know I like to give a good report with a full analysis of the game but, for the first time in history, I have to refuse to talk about the game due to an incredibly poor performance in our team loss to Dural of a scoreline of 10 to one,” he began.

“I usually could go on for two hours about a match [ed: this is true], but with respect to my players, who have been loyal servants to the game, [against Dural] it was men versus young boys.

“Dural are just unreal; and they did it without Rob [coach Varela] there. I felt that might’ve made a bit of a difference, but they just didn’t need to make any calls at all. We were outplayed, out-tackled, and every other ‘out’ word you can think of.”

Campbelltown aren’t the only team to tumble before the might of Dural, who’ve won 14 straight (including six in a row on the road) at a blistering six goals a game on average.

And Martinez has been around long enough to know how quickly the Futsal wheels can turn, recalling a similar loss ‘six, seven or eight years ago’ to then ‘unbeatable’ Sydney City, Quake bouncing back to beat the Eagles in the return bout.

“Hopefully we can have the same sort of redemption against Dural! I’m an honest man; it wasn’t that we lost to Dural, it was more the way we went down. We didn’t go down fighting and that made them look like a bazillion dollars,” he said.

“We now play Mountain Majik in a catch-up game on Thursday night at Parklea and it’s an early grand final for us; we can’t ever play like that again.”

Northside hold off Mascot

UTS Northside scraped home to a tense 2-1 win against Mascot Vipers at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium to finally get their 2015/16 summer party started.

A scoreless but nerve-wracking second half saw UTS cling onto their 2-1 halftime advantage and claim their first win in seven league runs.

Mascot stalwart Zvi Ben David said his side started on the back-foot and never really got going during the tactical battle.

“Five of our guys arrived a minute before kickoff, key players, so we started badly because we weren’t ready. We started off on the wrong foot,” he said.

“We went down a goal before we scored and 20 seconds later we had a two-on-one with their keeper and didn’t get it, and that was it for us.

“UTS played tactically on a smaller-than-usual court… and a team like that, if they fall behind they don’t have the attacking power, but if they’re ahead they have the energy to defend well. We didn’t play well and the game wasn’t good for the spectators either.

“We can still make the finals but have to win next week [against Taipans]. We’ve got the players to make the finals, we just need to develop better as a team.”
