Football NSW Futsal Premier League round 10 Preview
Football NSW Futsal Premier League round 10 Saturday night action pits South Coast against Dural, Campbelltown versus UTS Northside, Inner West play Mascot and Enfield meet Mountain Majik.
Rovers and Magic also meet in a long-awaited round-five catch-up game at Sydney Olympic Park the following Friday night (7pm). Visit the Football NSW website (Futsal tab) for full details.
Campbelltown Quake v UTS Northside
Minto Indoor Sports Centre 6.55pm
Interesting times ahead for a desperate Campbelltown to meet UTS Northside. Quake are in a precarious club championship position following South Coast’s dictatorial pre-Christmas visit to Minto while UTS have perhaps been the league’s most competitive reward-free side suffering four gutwrenching one-goal losses (one to Campbelltown in round three). The Northsiders have consolidated their top-tier status within two seasons of instatement and only Dural has outplayed them in the senior men category. UTS already boast one famous victory against stalwarts Quake, 7-2 last summer – can they repeat the dose or will Quake steady the shaky ship?
Enfield Rovers v Mountain Majik
Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre 8.05pm
Enfield Rovers host Mountain Majik in a pivotal game heading into the final month of Futsal. Majik have been luckless this summer, unaided by an indifferent record away from their mountain lair – a loss this weekend sees them level Mascot’s unenviable nine straight road defeats over 2013/14-14/15. Enfield too have been a little inconsistent, unable to string back-to-back wins this season and only winning once at home, but they have claimed four of five meetings between the sides to carry strong favouritism in this match.
South Coast Taipans v Dural Warriors
Illawarra Hockey Centre 5.40pm
Dural Warriors tackle South Coast Taipans in an intriguing match-up. The champs are firing on all cylinders with an incredible run of 17 unbeaten matches throughout 2015 and they just set a new premier league road rage of seven successive away victories, which is a heavy counterweight to South Coast’s four straight home defeats (only behind Sydney City’s six in 2012/13 and a miserable Phoenix 11 over 2013/14-14/15). The Taipans will be buoyed by a 6-5 upset of Quake to finish last year but they still have their work cut out for them against the rampant Warriors.
Inner West Magic v Mascot Vipers
Valentine Sports Park 7.40pm
Mascot Vipers versus Inner West Magic is surely the match of the round. Mascot are an unprecedented second on the ladder and can cement their lofty position with victory over Inner West, who sit a point behind them but with two matches in hand. The premier league foundation clubs have built up a healthy rivalry since the inaugural 2008/09 summer season and although Magic have won six of their last nine encounters (plus two 3-3 draws) Vipers boast the biggest margin of victory, 9-5 back in 2011. With Mascot riding a wave of momentum this contest should be breathtaking.
