Wagga Futsal Cup Success
Wagga Futsal is alive and well as the 2016 Cup tournament was hailed a complete success with record numbers and participants in the Under 12 and Under 14 age groups that took part in the Championships last weekend.
The Under 12 competition saw the Str8 Shots squad claim the silverware after defeating Mayhem FC 3-2 in what was an epic Grand Final.
The winners not only clinched the silverware but also had one of the youngest teams competing as coach Mark Watson’s team were made up of eleven-year-olds.
There was some consolation for Mayhem FC as Thomas Merrylees was rewarded for his efforts during Finals Day being crowned MVP for the Under 12’s competition.
The Under 14 competition was a much more lop sided affair as The Killer Monkeys coached by Scott Stevens saw his side romp home to victory with a 9-3 win over Blackout.
The Killer Monkeys also had Luke Stevens earn some silverware taking out the MVP for the Under 14’s competition.
Wagga Futsal Co-ordinator Sam Gray was delighted with how the Futsal Cup took shape as some quality action was on show in both age groups.
“The Wagga Futsal Cup for 2016 was a great success and we are already planning for the 2017 version for late March next year with clubs from around the region showing a keen interest.
“We certainly were treated to some amazing Futsal action by all participants and clubs.
“Special mentions must go to all participants, coaches, officials, supporters and sponsors especially Gary Lyons who entered three teams and assisted in the further promotion of the Futsal Cup.”
