Social Inclusion at the forefront of Multi-Disability Sports Day
Football NSW staff recently organised successful football drills and skills at the Willoughby Multi-Disability Sports Day at Gore Hill Oval as part of Social Inclusion Week (19-27th November).
Over 100 participants from a variety of schools and disability service providers enjoyed perfect weather as they showed off their football skills at Gore Hill Oval.
Participants as young as five years old attended the exciting day full of inclusion and goal scoring celebrations.
Scott Jones Willoughby Ability Linker and the event organiser put on the Multi Disability Sports day due to disability sports opportunities were low in this region.
“Ability Links in Partnership with Sport NSW and Willoughby council wanted to showcase disability sports in the area in an attempt to raise awareness of disability sports and perhaps offering potential opportunities for local based teams to compete in disability competitions in the future.
“I think we made a good start yesterday and a solid foundation to build on. We are looking forward to having Football NSW being a part of this journey.”
Football was a highlight amongst a variety of sports that all provided an opportunity for participants to try out sports, learn some new skills and provide individuals with opportunities to play sport on a regular basis for anyone with a disability.
Participants were welcomed from Cromehurst School, Job Centre Chatswood and Northside Enterprise disability service providers. The Disability Sports Network were also in attendance on the day with a live broadcast of the fantastic sports day.
Football NSW Community Game Development Officer Demelza Howard was pleased with each player’s participation at the football station.
“It was great to see the community and state sporting organisations come together to give participants the opportunity to play sport and give them an opportunity to be part of the ever growing football family”
