Statement by the Member Federations of FFA

The Member Federations of Football Federation Australia met with FFA Chairman Steven Lowy and Chief Executive David Gallop in Sydney on Monday to discuss expansion of the sport’s Congress.

Member Federations currently occupy nine positions on the 10-member congress, with a representative of the Hyundai A-League clubs as the 10th member.  As such, the Member Federations play a key role in the governance of football in this country.

Member Federations came to the meeting with a view that the time is right to expand the Congress. FFA expressed the same view.

Options for expansion were discussed in a positive manner and everyone in the meeting expressed a desire to work together with all relevant stakeholders to make changes that will benefit everyone in the game.

Member Federations stressed that any change to the current structure needs to recognise the interrelationship between community football, the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League and other groups in the football family.

Member Federations will continue discussions with other stakeholders with a view to coming to a detailed position prior to an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Congress which is likely by the end of March.
