Sydney Olympic FC prepared for new era
Regular PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s contenders Sydney Olympic FC finished in unfamiliar territory in 2016 with a sixth-place finish.
That was enough to guarantee finals, but Olympic is not a club content with top-half finishes.
Olympic is a club that wants to win.
New coach Jamie Monroy Zamith has arrived with the mandate of bringing success back to Olympic, a club steeped in history and Championships, and with a host of new recruits joining him, the Portuguese coach is hoping to make his debut season in Australia a memorable one.
The Coach
Whether it is his foreign allure or the fact that he has worked in academy set-ups for the likes of European Giants AC Milan and Barcelona, there is little doubting that Jamie Monroy Zamith inspires the most intrigue of all the coaches ahead of the upcoming season.
Zamith arrives with high expectations in unfamiliar surrounds and he will hope that his vast coaching experience translates to success with the senior set-up at Olympic.
Objectives
Zamith has made no secrets about his objectives for Sydney Olympic this season. He wants his team to win, but do not mistake his lofty ambitions for complacency.
Zamith knows his team is in for a tough battle to win the league, but he hopes to create an environment and a tactical style that will allow his team to flourish.
Player To Watch
Fresh out of the Hyundai A-League setup, Max Burgess will be looking to stamp his authority on the Sydney Olympic midfield this season. Zamith has been impressed with the midfielder in pre-season and the former Sydney FC player will be hopeful of turning that into consistent form once the real business starts. Max will be joined by his brother Darcy as well. He also returns to the PS4 NPL NSW men’s competition after spending some time with the Rockdale City Suns before moving to the Sky Blues Youth set-up.
Rising Star
Radovan Pavicevic arrives at Sydney Olympic hungry to prove himself after his short stint in the Hyundai A-League with the Newcastle Jets.
The striker scored just once in 17 Hyundai A-League games during the 2015-16 season in the top flight, but at just 21, Pavicevic will feel he still has plenty to offer.
Having seen what returning to goalscoring form in the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition has done for the likes of Blake Powell before him, Pavicevic will be hoping he can fire Olympic to the ultimate success this season.
Coaches Comments
"I think it is normal for any new coach to come in and be quite ambitions. I have already said the ultimate goal is win the league, but I know that this will not be easy. I say this to make sure we are motivated to go as far as we can. Pre-season has gone very well and I think the guys who have come in have added some real quality to the squad. I am happy with the progress we are making."
