Hornsby Heights FC Celebrates Girls Football

CGF2016e

Northern Suburbs FA’s Hornsby Heights Football Club will pay tribute to the players, coaches, managers and supporters of Girls’ Football at their Celebration of Girls’ Football Day on the 28th of May at Montview Oval.

Games and events will be running throughout the day and they encourage the local community to come along and see what female football is all about.

“We will have all our Sunday female teams playing at Montview, so the atmosphere will be fantastic,” said Maxine Edwards, one of the event organisers.

Football NSW, Northern Suburbs Football Association and their representative team Northern Tigers will all have representatives in attendance.

A graffiti wall has been created where the girls can write messages about why they play football, as well as lots of other fun activities.

Hornsby Heights Football has seen a dramatic rise in the participation rate of female footballers within the club over the past few years.

With numbers increasing from just 45 registered female players in 2013 to over 240 this year. Their players range in age from just five to over 40.

“Our aim is to give players the opportunity to play football at a level that suits them, whether that be purely social or part of a more competitive team.

“Building our numbers is a part of being able to offer those choices,” Edwards further stated.

Hornsby Heights Football currently offers female teams in every age group for girls aged as young as 6.

They are also one of the founding clubs to take part in the NSFA Diamond League Competition which offers girls aged 10 to 14 a development pathway to take their football to the next level.

These teams will be participating at Kanga Cup in July and will be raising money to fund their entry fee with a Cake Stall on the day.

This year also welcomes back a Women’s All-age team to the club.

“We are so excited to have a Women’s All-age team after a few years without on,” said Maxine.

“Being able to offer female age group pathways right through to adulthood is essential in reducing drop-out rates during later years.”

The Women’s All-age team will play Wahroonga in what is set to be a top of the table clash at Montview at 3pm.
