Honours even at Bonnyrigg
It was a scoreless draw at Bonnyrigg Sports Ground during the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clash between Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Hakoah Sydney City East on Saturday.
The White Eagles created a plethora of chances throughout the 90 minutes but Brian Brown’s side couldn’t find the back of Anthony Bouzanis’ net.
Dean Bereveskos almost had the away side in front after only three minutes but Ryan Norval saved well.
The White Eagles had their first chance on 14 minutes after a fantastic run by captain Ray Miller, laying off for David Vrankovic who couldn’t force Anthony Bouzanis into a more serious save.
Vrankovic was at it again two minutes later, this time blasting the ball over the bar.
Two minutes before the break again Miller went off on a mazy run before playing through Jacob Ott but the attacking midfielder couldn’t beat Bouzanis.
Right on half time, Miller was almost rewarded for all his good work in the first period, curling an effort agonisingly wide of the top right corner.
Only six minutes after the break, Ray Miller was brought down in the box and won a penalty.
Shervin Adeli stepped up to the spot but Bouzanis read him easily, saving a poor penalty well.
Howard Fondyke was next to test his luck on 65 minutes, trying a sneaky lob over Bouzanis that kissed the cross bar and went over.
Bonnyrigg threatened again on 74 minutes as Vrankovic crossed in a delightful ball for substitute Greg Kondek who must’ve thought he had scored with a glancing header, only for Bouzanis top tip the ball over the bar.
Ben Spruce rose highest from a corner and really should’ve scored but straight into Bouzanis.
In the last kick of the game Kondek found Miller at the far post but again it was Bouzanis who stuck out a leg to claim a point for the away side.
Captain Miller was disappointed his side didn’t take all three points.
“It’s tough to describe, I don’t know how we didn’t win, we dominated for the whole match,” he said.
“We just didn’t take our chances.”
Player/coach Gavin Rae was realistic in his description of the match.
“We were very lucky to come away with a point but we’ll take it and move on,” he said.
There will be a weekend off for all clubs but Hakoah Sydney City East will be taking part in the 2017 Waratah Cup Final when they face APIA Leichhardt Tigers at Lambert Park on Sunday July 9th.
