Round 14 Preview – PS4 NPL NSW Women’s

Match action during the PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues NSW Women's Round 4 match between the Blacktown Spartans and the Illawarra Stingrays at Blacktown Football Park on April 30, 2017 in Blacktown, Australia. @PlayStationAustralia #PS4NPLNSW

There are only five rounds left in the PlayStation®4 NPL NSW Women’s competition.

It’s that time of the season where any points dropped could cost teams silverware or finals football.

Blacktown Spartans v North Shore Mariners

Two teams clash at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday who cannot drop any points.

For the Blacktown Spartans a victory will keep them well in touch with a finals place, a loss could see them drop seven points away from a finals place.

They suffered a heavy defeat last time out, making it only one win in their last six matches, a reason to be worried at the Spartans.

The North Shore Mariners were one of the form sides of the competition before falling to defeat in the dying stages of last week’s match.

A loss on Sunday will more or less end any hope of finals football so it is imperative the Mariners pick up all three points.

The Spartans won the earlier clash between the two 4-2.

Macarthur Rams v Emerging Jets

It’s first verse last at Lynwood Park as the Macarthur Rams host the Emerging Jets.

Two defeats all season has the Rams flying high and Norm Boardman has to be happy with the consistency his side has shown.

With various experienced heads in the team and Kylie Ledbrook at the top of her game, the Rams will be hard to stop.

The tough campaign continues for the Jets but they won’t give up and will continue to plug away.

A tight loss on Sunday and a heavy defeat against the Stingrays in a rescheduled match on Tuesday completed a tough week for the Jets.

The young side will be buoyed though, having pushed the Rams to their limits last time they mate, losing 1-0.

Northern Tigers v Illawarra Stingrays

At North Turramurra Recreational Centre, the Northern Tigers host the Illawarra Stingrays.

With finals nothing but a mathematical chance now for the Tigers, survival is key and any possible points they can pick up are important.

They’ve won two of their last four games, including last week, which will see them enter this fixture full of confidence.

A mid-week win has Brett Wallin’s Stingrays back in second place and only three points away from the Rams, albeit having played a match more.

To keep the pressure on the Rams, the south coast side can only take three points from this one.

The Stingrays scored their highest win of the season last time they met, winning 8-1.

Football NSW Institute v NWS Koalas

Another fixture where neither sided can afford a loss at Valentine Sports Park as the Football NSW Institute host the North West Sydney Koalas.

Consistency has been missing from Craig Foster’s Institute side and will be disappointed with their last two losses following a good run of results.

They’re in fifth, three points out of the four having played a game more.

It’s Stephen Peters’ side’s last chance to keep in touch with the top four.

Without a win since round six, the Koalas are currently in eighth place and have minimal chances of finding themselves in a finals place.

The Koalas secured a comfortable 3-0 win when they met last time.

Manly United v Sydney University (Rescheduled for August 3)

Rescheduled Round 16 –

Emerging Jets 1-5 Illawarra Stingrays

At Valentine Sports Park the Emerging Jets took on the Illawarra Stingrays.

The Jets battled hard in the first period but went into the break behind as the Stingrays took a 3-1 lead.

They added to that in the second half, scoring two more for a final score of 5-1.

Talitha Kramer, Logan Garard, Erica Halloway and a brace to Emma Rolston saw the away side go home the happier of the two.
